Two weekends ago we headed to the opening weekend for the fall season; a.k.a., apple harvest, at Millstone Creek Orchards. I’ve been dreaming of checking out the apple orchards in North Carolina since we moved here, and last year, with everything going on, I totally missed the season. This year I was determined to get our family there. It was so worth the wait!
We started our visit by taking a tractor hayride to each of the picking fields.
We started at the vineyards and Scarlett got such a kick out of seeing all of the “grape trees.”
After that it was off to the apple trees. There were several varieties of apples and SO many trees to pick from.
We even got to pick gourds which totally satisfied my fall-loving heart.
Seriously, there were SO many places to pick apples, and so many types. (Apple recipe is coming soon … obviously!)
The property is sprawling and so beautiful. The drive from Durham was just shy of an hour, but totally worth the trip.
I’m pretty sure we need an apple tree in our backyard now.
The property also has a stage with live music on the weekends … Scarlett couldn’t stop dancing; there was a store full of jellies, jams, apple cider, gifts, and home accessories; there are (amazing) apple cider donuts (worth every single calorie), caramel apple sundaes, and apple cider slushies. There were also outdoor games and activities, apple cider pressing demonstrations, and even a story time for kids. This is THE place to go in the fall, whether you have kids or not.
