Ready to throw your tween the perfect at-home movie birthday party? We threw a cozy and nostalgic party in homage to one of our favorite movies – The Princess Diaries – complete with a comfy movie screening lounge, DIY charm bracelet station, a Princess Diaries dress-up station, pizza, cake, and so much more!
The Princess Diaries Movie Birthday Party
Over the summer, we went down the rabbit hole of favorite movies from my childhood to share with our girls. We watched so many great movies, including The Parent Trap, Freaky Friday, and The Princess Diaries. So when our then almost-ten-year-old came to me with the idea for a party based off of one our favorites, The Princess Diaries, I was all in without a second thought.
Scarlett’s The Princess Diaries Movie 10th Birthday Party
For our Princess Diaries themed party, we decided to make it a movie watch party, since we figured not all of my oldest daughter’s friends had actually seen The Princess Diaries yet.
From there, it was easy to envision a cozy screening party, with a showing of The Princess Diaries, snacks, and crafts.
Planning a The Princess Diaries Birthday Party
First up, I went to the Internet to find party decorations that fit our The Princess Diaries theme; Genovian pears, button-down pajamas (like Princess Mia’s), and of course, pizza!
We decided we would set up the party in our kitchen, dining room area, and living room. The living room would be our “movie theatre” and we would set up food, photo, and craft stations throughout our first floor.
We created a DIY Charm Bracelet Station so the girls could make friendship charm bracelet’s like Lily and Mia’s. We also used “fancy” plastic champagne flutes for our drinks for the full princess experience.
We turned the living room into a cozy movie theatre and covered the couches and Nuggets set out on the floor with sheets and quilts and piles of cozy pillows for the girls to lounge on while they watched the movie.
The Princess Diaries Movie Watch Party Concession Stand
Because we were throwing a movie party, popcorn was at the top of our snack list. We have a desk in our living room (ahh, city living!), and we turned that into our “movie theatre concession stand”.
Concession Stand Snacks
- hot popcorn
- homemade muddy buddies
- mini M&M’s
- Fritos
- Sour Patch watermelon gummies
- Hi-Chew candies
- sparklign water
- soda
- juice boxes
- bottled water
The Princess Diaries Movie Watch Party DIY Charm Bracelet Station
One of the big hits of The Princess Diaries party was our DIY charm bracelet station. I found these great DIY charm bracelet making kits on Amazon, which made shopping for the party activity and setup a breeze. (I also snagged a few extra bracelets, in case girls wanted to make an extra bracelet or two.)
Each charm bracelet kit itself comes with 6 different charm bracelets and over 60 adorable clip-on charms (no tools required!)
The Princess Diaries Movie Watch Party Dress-up Station
We also set up a Princess Diaries dress-up station, complete with Mia’s signature black sunglasses for each of the girls to wear and take home, hair tinsel, and stick-on gems, so the girls could all let their inner princess shine.
And of course, we had an Instax Instant Camera and plenty of instant film, and a few fun Photo Booth props, so that the girls could take pictures of themselves all dressed up for the party.
I created a quick sign on Canva with one of our favorite quotes from The Princess Diaries movie, that read: “Only Paolo can take this and this and give you … a princess.” The sign felt perfect for this party station and really got the girls into taking their “before and after” princess photos. For lunch we served pizza, M&M’s (naturally!), and birthday cake!
The Princess Diaries Tween Girl Party Favors
We put together the cutest cosmetic bags – perfect for tween girls – filled with a few fun accessories: hair clips, silk scrunchies, Lip Smacker lip balm, pink reusable microfiber face washcloths, etc. and attached these printable Checkered Gift Tags I created on Canva to each bag.
The Princess Diaries Movie Watch Party Printables
I’m no expert, but I love playing around on Canva, and created these The Princess Diaries Movie Watch Party Printables, so I thought I would share them here on Glitter, Inc.
I love the checkered pattern as an easy print I could tie in throughout the party and party printables. I went with red as one of the dominant colors because our popcorn containers were red and white striped. I added in pink – of course – because we love all things pink in this house.
For the DIY charm bracelet station, I create this adorable DIY Charm Bracelets Printable to direct the girls to the bracelet-making setup.

We set up a mini dress-up station complete with oval black sunglasses (similar to the pair Mia wears in the movie posters), tiaras, and …
The quote, “Only Paolo can take this and this and give you … a princess.” felt perfect for this party station.

In the living room, where we set up our cozy theatre to watch the movie, I created a “Concession Stand” so that the girls could easily grab their drinks and snacks to enjoy while they watched.
I created this Concession Stand Menu because I’m extra like that.

And of course, the checkered gift tags we attached to the tween girls cosmetic bags as the party favor.
