Looking for a little inspiration to kick your Summer bucket list into high gear? I’m sharing the 15 things topping my Summer to do list, and I’m hoping it inspires you and your family to get a fresh start with the season!
“I love the summertime! Summertime! Baby I’m feeling fine. With those hot hazy days. No school just play. In the summery summertime.” You know you’re a mom of two little kids when you start a lifestyle blog post by quoting the Bubble Guppies. Telllllll me I’m not the only mom subjected to endless Bubble Guppies. Scarlett is obsessed, and though she doesn’t watch all that much television to begin with, somehow, when it is on, it’s ALWAYS Bubble Guppies. Okay, I’ve gone way off on a tangent here. But serrrriouuussslllyyy …
I do love the summertime. The sticky hot air reminds me of home (Miami), and I like to soak up all of that sunshine because Fall always seems to come on fairly quickly. I’m also ALL about tackling a new to-do list come Summer. (If you’re curious, you can see my Spring bucket list right here.) It’s as good a time as any to start fresh in all areas of life, and I’m all for it.
So I’m sharing this year’s Summer Bucket List. I have a few fun plans in mind, and maybe some wishful thinking, plus a few awesome trips ahead … one starting THIS WEEK. Here’s what’s topping my Summer bucket list, plus 15 ideas for things you can do this Summer to make way for the new season:
15 Things to Do This Summer; a.k.a., My Summer Bucket List
1 – Update our living areas for the warm season ahead.
I can’t wait to break out all of our neutral throw pillows, and I plan on adding more greenery to our living room. (This image has been giving me so much inspiration!)
2 – Bake with all of the fresh summer fruit.
Last year, I went a little peach crazy and made this incredible peach cake, 10-minute peach dumplings, a truly delicious peach cobbler, to name a few; and though it’s not technically “baking,” these salted dark chocolate diipped watermelon slices were a fan-favorite. This year, I already have a fresh strawberry galette coming soon to the blog, and so many more fruity recipes in the pipeline.
3 – Start a Supper Club.
I love the idea of a supper club; a way to bring good friends and good food together. Plus, as transplants to Durham, I think it could be such a perfect way to strengthen and grow friendships, because when you move a lot, your friends really do become like family. (Okay, admittedly, I totally stole this one from my Spring Bucket List, and truth be told, with how busy our Summer is shaping up to be, I may very well bump this one to Fall – whoops – but hey, if it’s on my “to do” list, it has a better chance of happening … I think!)
4 – Run through the sprinklers with the girls … and just get outside more in general.
I always forget how house-bound you can feel on the coldest days of winter, so I want to soak up all of the sticky sunshine while we can. I can’t wait to try a bunch of fun outdoor activities, and I’m always looking for fun things to do!
5 – Go to one of the many outdoor movie screenings in our town.
Every summer, several places in our area screen movies outside, and I love the idea of bringing a picnic blanket and enjoying a fun family movie night. Bonus: most have food trucks, so I don’t even have to stress about what to do for dinner that night.
6 – Search for fireflies.
Scarlett has never seen fireflies! I think it’s about time!
7 – Make a work of art with chalk on our driveway.
And photograph it, of course.
8 – Escape to the beach for a weekend.
Last year we got the chance to explore the Outer Banks, and I really want to check out the other gorgeous North Carolina beaches.
9 – Make homemade popsicles.
Excited to experiment with a bunch of yummy new flavors.
10 – Finally organize my beauty.
Okay, this is another “to do” that never got crossed off of my Spring Bucket List, but here goes nothing! My makeup is a disaster. I have random cubbies, trays, and drawers all over our master bathroom and bedroom filled with beauty products (most of which, I don’t use,) and the stash just keeps growing because I’m a blogger and truth be told, we get sent A LOT of beauty products. Not that I’m complianing. 😉 I’m determined to find a more seamless way to use and organize my makeup. Anyone have any beauty storage they LOVE?
11 – Consign and donate.
I purged a TON of clothes I never, ever wear in the Spring and it felt SO good to let go of things I was holding onto for no good reason. I plan on tackling my shoes next!
12 – Get better at photography.
I’ve learned to really love taking photos for my blog, and I truly want to get better at the craft. I’d love to take a class geared towards moms, and maybe something on fod blogging? I could also totally use a good Lightroom tutorial. Any favorite online classes?
13 – Take a flower-arranging class.
Ever since we put together this simple tutorial for making a DIY Spring floral arrangement, I’ve been dreaming of flexing my novice flower-aranging skills. Maybe even learning to make a floral wreath to hang on our front door for Summer?
14 – Take a hand-lettering class.
I’ve had this on my list for months and months, but I’m determined to learn how to letter pretty things … even if my day-to-day handwriting is awful.
15 – Continue to read more books.
Lately I’ve been devouring books; at least one a week, sometimes more. I love reading, and every season I try to pick a few books as must-reads. I recently finished Sweetbitter and The Selection (Surprisingly good!), and I want more. Any suggestions? SIDE NOTE: with the relaunch of Glitter, Inc. I have an all new way to catalog all of the books I love. Have you checked out our brand spanking new BOOK CLUB? I think you’re going to love it.
