How to Wear Layers for Fall + Winter

The key to dressing for Winter, especially for a girl from Miami like me, is layering. And in the cooler months, when you still want to keep an element of style in your daily dressing, and not just throw on a great big sleeping-bag-like snow parka, layering the trends (keeping warmth in mind) is best. The key to layering are picking out warm pieces that don’t add a whole lot of bulk … with the exception of a great plush scarf. A few other things to keep in mind when layering:

Stick with colors in the same color group when you dress in layers. In fact, dark colors and neutrals work best for most people. Slip in one darker pattern somewhere in there to add a kick.
Mix up textures; try pairing cashmere or wool with denim, leather with silk, or ruffles with tweed.
A great scarf is the perfect topper to any layered look. Try hunting for thick scarves that provide a lot of warmth, or rock two of your favorite scarves at once.
Don’t forget to keep your hands and feet warm in the colder temps: warm socks and a good pair of gloves go a long way.
