I was paid by Lowe’s as a part of this campaign. Thank you so much for supporting the sponsors that make Glitter, Inc. possible!
We decorated our living room for the holidays, and I am so excited to share it with you!
Since moving into our new house, and after a bit of debate, painting our brick fireplace white, the fireplace and mantle has become the focal point of our living room. Because our living room is so white, I wanted to bring in a bit of warmth, with a clean, rustic feel for the holiday season.
There is a huge variety of holiday décor available at Lowe’s, and I honestly had the hardest time narrowing down my picks. The holiday living candles and ornaments, the holiday signs, the stockings, even the occasion wrapping paper was gorgeous.
I decided to bring in elements from nature to really bring the look to life. Foraging for greenery was so much fun with Scarlett, though she mostly handed me dirt and twigs. I love involving her in all of the fun holiday traditions, including the decorating itself, even at an early age.
Take a look at how we decorated our living room and how we transitioned the décor for the holiday season, and be sure to let me know what you think in the comments and on social media (@glitterinclexi)!
How to Transition Your Décor From the Holidays to New Year’s Eve:
As for our living room décor, the challenge was finding and using pieces to create a holiday look that could work in two ways: one for the holidays and one for the New Year. The beauty of so many of the holiday décor products at Lowe’s was that they really could be pulled into both holiday and new year displays; which is great, because really, who wants to have to buy a whole new set of décor for a holidays just days apart? I chose a mostly neutral palette with metallics sprinkled in (gold, silver, and copper) … yep, I’m a total creature of habit; a.k.a., glitter is my fave.
Hubby found these little pinecones that look like rosebuds and as you may have caught on Snapchat → glitterinclexi or my Instagram Story, I went spray paint crazy and covered them in gold spray paint. They were the perfect touch.
The holiday living candles and candle holders, votives, snowflake Christmas stockings, and holiday living ball ornaments were all gorgeous find from Lowe’s.
We set up a little hot chocolate station, because no holiday gathering is complete without hot chocolate. (You can see how we upgrade instant hot cocoa here.)
I will forever be a fan of the giant campfire marshmallows.
We also set up a cozy spot to lounge.
And of course, presents. I snagged two rolls of that gold glitter occasion wrapping paper because I loved it so much.
Isn’t that little porcupine ornament the cutest?
To transition the space for New Year’s Eve, we took down some of the more traditionally “holiday” elements like the stockings and presents, and added a few fun celebratory New Year’s Eve pieces, like a clock, disco balls, stars, and a New Year sign.
First up was a fun and fast DIY.
Using numbers from either a craft store or house numbers from Lowe’s, spray-paint those gold, glue a twine knot to the back of each number, hammer four nails into the front of your board, and once the glue is dry, hang your 2-0-1-7 numbers onto your board. The best part about this simple DIY is that you can easily buy a new number to change up the year. (I bought a number “8” for next year as well.)
How cute is that?
Of course, in true New Year’s fashion, there had to be stars. These paper door hanger stars from Lowe’s were one of my favorite purchases and I’m already imagining other ways to use them. I just replaced my stockings with the stars on the fireplace mantle stocking hooks.
The more sparkles and disco balls, the better.
We replaced the hot chocolate setup with a champagne station to toast the new year.
The “Cheers” sign, gold tray, and coasters were all from Lowe’s.
I’m not sure which setup I adore more. I love that the New Year’s space had such a glamorous twist, while still feeling cozy and warm, but when I first decorated for the holidays it really felt like THE HOLIDAYS, and I love that excitement leading up to all of the festivities.
The best New Year’s parties are the ones where you get to kick off your heels.
