Looking to lighten up your pants wardrobe this summer? Have you tried the cropped wide leg pants trend? After all, warmer temperatures call for a wider leg. (Psst … these adorable “short pants” are also known as sailor pants, painter pants, palazzo pants, or a gazebo pant, and many have an on-trend high waist.)

Majorly cute, and with plenty of 70s vibes, the shape is actually much more flattering than you’d think. Truly, the cropped, wide-leg silhouette is easy, comfortable and shape-friendly (especially when combined with a higher waist.) Even if the idea of such a bold pant gives you the fashion jitters, rumor has it this pair from J.Crew (though I’m digging this pair too!) and the oh-so-popular Jesse Kamm sailor pant are both universally flattering, this Madewell pair is often compared to the pricier Kamm pant and is on MAJOR sale, and this crepe pair is a subtle way to try the trend; so one of these pairs may just be worth a try-on. And if you really want to dive in, there’s an affordable and adorable version from Everlane with pleats.

    Ahhh, I love these cropped wide leg pants on each girl, but I’m a shorty. I’m not sure that I could pull it off. I certainly had wide leg pants in the 90’s and rocked them all the time. Thanks for sharing some inspiration.
