How to Wear a Slip Dress this Summer
Guess who’s making a comeback? The ever-classic slip dress. Aside from bordering on looking like lingerie (which I know can be daunting … but trust me, this works), the slip dress is surprisingly versatile. For starters, the spaghetti-strapped slip dress is a perfect layering piece. Pair it with a boxy pullover sweater (I actually just spotted this one on my first visit to Lou & Grey and let me tell you, it is amazing in person), a blazer, skinny jeans, a denim or leather jacket, with a flannel tied around the waist (for ultimate 90s girl chic), the list goes on and on. Of course, the slip dress is also incredibly chic worn solo with great accessories. And last but not least, this is your go-to dress for the hottest of Summer months.
There are so many slip dress styles as of late: I have my eye on these twists on the classic – a slip with fringe, a floral slip, and a ruffled slip.
The key to wearing a slip dress is keeping it from looking too sexy; that’s when you start to fall into the lingerie-as-clothing trap. Aritzia’s Templeton slip dress is popular amongst the fashion set and is kind of perfect here, because it’s sans lace, keeping it very un-lingerie-esque (though I’m still a huge fan of the little peaks of lace here and there.) By the way, this Topshop version is equally amazing and a bit more budget-friendly.
Here the lace-less slip dress (in navy) is paired with a leather jacket, booties, delicate bracelets, and a small structured bag; the result: a toughed up version of the slip dress that I can totally get on board with. (via The August Diaries)
A slip dress worn over skinny ankle-skimming zip pants, cinched in with a mens belt, black mules, and a Pashli satchel … this is just too good. (via Fake Leather)
The layer of lace peeking out at the bottom of this slip paired with oversized sweater and booties is one of my favorite looks. (via Raspberry Rouge)
Short slip with touches of sheer material, paired with a denim jacket, loafers, and a structure bag – too cool for school. (via Style du Monde)
I love the faint plaid on this lace slip dress; the borrowed-from-the-boys black blazer, heeled sheer panel boots, and studded Valentino bag doesn’t hurt either. (via The Chriselle Factor)
Midi lace slip paired with a trench coat and strappy heeled sandals: sexy and chic. (via Fashion Narcissist)
This might be my favorite look of all. Floral lace slip, flannel tied around the waist, chunky moto boots, and a Chanel bag. It’s 90s grunge made modern. (via Fashion Vibe)
And then of course, there’s the unadorned slip worn with just the right accessories: sandals, oversized floppy hat, aviator sunglasses, and structured bowling bag. (via Modern Legacy)

flawless inspos! I have a few and have always dressed them with knitted layers, but I’m digging them with booties and sandals for a dressed down summer look!

Love all these looks, but I’m not sure how to approach the bra-less dress. I’ve breastfed three babies now, and I need support!
