I am a mascara hoarder. It all started back in high school when I figured out that a swipe of eyeliner and a little bit of mascara went a long way (that was a great day, FYI!) Since that fateful day, I’ve been on an endless hunt for the eye makeup combination that really gives my eyes that wow-factor. I have an arsenal of mascara, and I mix and match those – especially for a night out, when truth be told, I double up on coats of mascara: one for volume and one for thickening. And I typically stick to a pencil eyeliner, mostly because I’ve never quite gotten the hand of liquid eyeliner. I also consistently stick with a soft neutral eyeshadow base, and something with a bit more sparkle for night-time.
When COVERGIRL reached out and asked if I’d like to test drive their eye products from the new Bombshell collection, I was admittedly totally excited, because the big hot pink wand of mascara (a.k.a., the star of the collection), had two built-in wands (one on either side); the system combines extreme volume with an intensifying top coat for big, sexy bombshell lashes. So awesome. (The mascara – doubled up – actually looks surprisingly real on, but it is pretty tricky to get off at the end of the day — you’ll need makeup remover, rather than just soap and water.) I was extra surprised to find that I actually liked the cream eyeshadow (I’m usually a chicken when it comes to cream eyeshadows and blushes) and the liquid eyeliner actually has a precision felt tip applicator, so application is surprisingly straightforward (by the way, loved the eyeliner).
I used the three products from the Bombshell collection: COVERGIRL Bombshell Volume by LashBlast™ Mascara in Very Black, COVERGIRL Bombshell Shine Shadow by LashBlast™ in Ice Queen, and COVERGIRL Bombshell Intensity Liner in Pitch Black Passion.
For my bombshell look, I started with my own concealer and matte powder as a base; I find that putting a dab of concealer on my eyelids and just under my eyes, along with a bit of matte powder, really helps eye makeup to stay in place (even after a long day, or night, at work or play). Next up, I spread a bit of the Bombshell Shine Shadow on my eyelids (though you could put that on at the end as well) and carefully painted on the liner (you could also use this liner for an easy wing tip). Last but not least: the mascara. First, I applied an even coat of the extreme volume basecoat (I can’t tell you how much I love that this mascara boasts a “basecoat”), and then I topped off my basecoat with the intensifying top coat. Et voilà!
The look: bold, beautiful, and dramatic eyes … what’s not to love?

Okay, so I’m a sucker for buying new mascara. Whenever one comes out with a “bigger! BETTER!” claim, I’ll go ahead and buy it.
I just tried Bombshell last week, and while I loved how it looked on, it was a PAIN to take off every night. I’m not sure if it’s the fact that there are two steps, but I’d swipe at my eyes with remover for a good five minutes, and my lashes would still look (and feel) all clumpy and weird.
I have heard great things about the eyeliner though!

You’re totally right – the mascara was really tough to get off – definitely required makeup remover (the good stuff!) And the eyeliner is really really good. 🙂

I’m a sucker for new mascaras and added Bombshell Volume to my list. Coconut oil works pretty great as an eye makeup remover (and moisturizer). Since I haven’t tried specifically with this mascara, I can’t say for sure, but a suggestion to try.
Lexi says
Awesome – I’ll definitely try that!

I have to admit although I love Sephora my favorite mascaras have always been the “drugstore” brands. I will have to try out the Bombshell eye makeup! Thanks for sharing!
