Last year was my first time at New York Fashion Week. I went for about four days and I was overwhelmed with the options, the excitement, the who-you-knows and who-you’d-love-to-bes, the events I went to, and the events I wouldn’t dream of getting an invite to. I spent two of the four days at Lucky FABB – a big blogging conference created by Lucky Magazine. I made invaluable connections and drooled over the fashion previews and trend-setting so many months in advance; I also left with a few new closet additions. It is NYC, after all. (You can read more about last year’s crazy NYFW marathon, plus a lot of survival advice, here.)
This year, I’ll be in New York City for a full week, and I’m excited, nervous, a little bit terrified, and then excited all over again. And this year, I have actual fashion show invites – this is kind of a big deal in my little fashion world, guys. (And yes, I’ll be the dork with a camera and a huge pinch-me grin on my face.) I also have a few really exciting announcements, plus one or two backstage sneak peeks that I think you all are going to be really excited about. But the truth is, I’m nervous to come out of my shell, especially on full blast for seven days straight. If you’re even a bit introverted, you know how tough it is to muster up all of your courage and talk to so many strangers in so many foreign places. (If you haven’t read this Buzzfeed post on introverts yet, you must, it’s hilarious, and true.) I know it sounds crazy — I’m a blogger, I chose this life, but in truth, it kind of chose me, and I’m just sort of running alongside it for this big crazy adventure. And as a blogger, I’ve had to learn to step way way out of my comfort zone. But it’s good for me, and I’m so excited for what’s next, and I can’t wait to share every step of the way with you all.
But just FYI, my first night in the big city, and I spent it taking a bubble bath, ordering sushi for one (I’m totally on my own for events and meetings the next few days until my blogger buddy, Alyson gets in on Thursday), and watching Sixteen Candles on ABC Family in my hotel room.

My first fashion week I was a nervous wreck and went home early thanks to a nasty bug I caught. My second was in February and it was only 3 days, filled with shows back to back and backstage access to each one. I was alone the entire time, didn’t know or speak to many people and really communicated more with my editor via text than anything but I loved every moment. You sound like me…you’ll enjoy every moment. And don’t order it, walk and sit outside while you eat. People watching is so different in NYC.
