Fashion Classic: Little {Crossbody} Black Bag

Maybe it’s that I have travel on the brain with all of our upcoming trips, but lately, I’m dreaming in lightweight go-anywhere crossbody bags. I’ve been circling around the Gucci Soho Disco Bag in my online stalking (errr, shopping), but then I recently discovered the Rebecca Minkoff Love Crossbody, which kind of just lead me down the rabbit hole of gorgeous black crossbody bags. I’ll always lust after classic black Chanel and Céline bags, but let’s be real, rent comes first.

Any time I’m thinking about making an investment in a handbag, whether it’s $50 or $500, I want to be sure it’s the kind of piece I will wear and wear … I’m a stickler about my handbags. And crossbody bags, they’re perfect for every occasion – from travel to cocktail party, and evrything in between – so I rounded up the key things to look for in a great classic crossbody bag, plus nine of my absolute favorites right now.

There are a few essentials to a great (and classic) black crossbody bag:

  • luxe leather; something that will last and stand the test of time
  • a comfortable and long strap to make it that crossbody bag you always turn to
  • enough room to carry the necessities, without making it a small luggage (mini bags are effortless and convenient)
  • a bit of great hardware for an added pop, i.e., chain strap, fringe tassel, gold or silver hardware

Shop the bags: 1. Gucci Soho Disco Bag (I have such a crush on this bag!) // 2. Rebecca Minkoff Love Crossbody (This one looks so much like the Chanel Boy Bag, at a fraction of the cost!) // 3. Marc By Marc Jacobs Washed Up Cross Body Bag // 4. Chloé Marcie Small Leather Bag // 5. Rebecca Minkoff Mini Paris Crossbody // 6. Burberry ‘Large Langley’ Crossbody Bag (I love that this bag is a bit bigger, a.k.a., roomier, but still so classically chic.) // 7. rag & bone ‘Enfield Mini’ Crossbody Bag (Love that this one has an edgier look!) // 8. Burberry Small Nubuck Leather Crossbody Bag (Burberry. On sale.) // 9. Prada Vitello Mini Zip Crossbody Bag

Time-Saving Summer Beauty Routine

In the Summer, especially here in Miami, I’ve had to learn to change up my beauty routine to keep my skin and hair in check with the crazy hot temperatures.  So when Vaseline asked me to share a “Day in the Life of Beauty”  all about my efficient morning beauty routines, I knew it was just the post for me.  Like most people, I’m on a pretty tight time-frame in the mornings, but from 9 to 1:30 I’m in a law office, where I can’t just turn up in my sweatpants (no matter how much I’d love to on some days … a.k.a., Mondays.)

Get the Beauty Routine Accessories:  Clean & Clear Morning Burst Face Wash // Olay Complete All Day Moisturizer With Sunscreen SPF 15 // Vaseline Spray & Go Moisturizer // Kate Spade Rose Avenue Medium Cosmetic Pouch // CHANEL VITALUMIÈRE AQUA Fresh and Hydrating Cream Compact Makeup SPF 15 // Clinique Stay-Matte Sheer Pressed Powder Oil-Free // Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette // Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquer // Olay Total Effects CC Cream // CHANEL ÉCRITURE Automatic Liquid Eyeliner // Rimmel ScandalEyes Show Off Mascara // Berry ‘Bird’ Bobby Pins (Set of 2)

First things first, I always wash my face with a gentle exfoliator, and of course I brush my teeth.  Then it’s coffee and moisturizer.  I’ve been trying to buy makeup that comes packed with SPF for my face, but I also like to keep my skin moisturized from head to toe.  Olay has a great face cream with SPF that I’ve used for years, but putting lotion all over your arms, legs, and neck for fifteen minutes each morning can get tedious.  In comes Vaseline Spray & Go Moisturizer; totally time-saving and brilliant.  The spray is not sticky or greasy, and you can put your clothes on right after application.  My suggestion: go with the cocoa butter formula – cocoa butter helps prevent stretch marks (not that we have those), and treats of dry or burned skin (the result of extra-hot Summers).

My Summer makeup routine is a bit different as well.  As I mentioned, every concealer and touch-up I buy has to have SPF. I’m also really into tinted SPF moisturizers, and this one has become a fast favorite.  Then it’s a swipe of oil-free moisturizer to help stay matte, a bit of eyeshadow, a swipe of liquid liner, and a bold stay-out lip.

This Summer I’m also trying to lay off the hair iron … trying … so I’ve searched for a few sweet clips to keep my hair up and pretty.  I’ve also been trying out a lot of simple updos like these to keep cool in the warmer months.

Do you change up your beauty routines for Summer?

Valentine’s Day {Wish} Gift List

With Valentine’s Day only two weeks away, I thought it was just about that time to post my Valentine’s Day wishlist so that you all could add to your own lists, give me suggestions of other V-day-worthy goodies, and maybe, just maybe, my own hubby will feel so inclined to check my blog for “research” and order me ten to twelve sets of gold flatware.  A girl can dream, right?  (And you know you’re growing up when you want flatware more than anything else on the annual day of love.)

In truth, all I really want is a sweet card from my hubby … and a girly movie marathon. {Sugar Paper You + Me Card}

And maybe a s’more.

Gift Guide {for Beauty Lovers}

Today we’re talking beauty.  More specifically, the beauty obsessed … like me.  I’ve decided (totally self-proclaimed) that beauty products make the very best gift.  I mean, you can gift someone Chanel, in a glossy sparkly tube of magic, and it’s reasonable (but totally awesome!)  What girl doesn’t love a lush new mascara, perfect shade of polish, or brand new lipstick?  Plus, there are so many snazzy beauty-meets-tech toys out there right now, it’s easy to gift away for every beauty-obsessive on your list.

These are a few of my favorite things: Naked 2 Palette (The best eye shadow palette … ever.  It works for everyone and comes with every shade you never knew you needed.) // Kai Candle (Kai makes the most amazing gardenia scent and the candle leaves your space smelling like a secret garden filled with gardenia bushes.  Can you tell I love it?) // Clampless Bombshell Curling Iron (On my wishlist!) // Liquid Liner (Ego boost in a bottle!) // Essie Polish Trio (want.them.all.) // Bath Cubes … that smell like sugar (Need I say more?) // Argan Oil (I’ve heard it’s a must have!) // Nars Hot Pink Lipgloss // Chanel Glittery Glossimer // Kate Spade Make-up Pouch // Juicy Couture Travel Spray Pen Set // Clarisonic (Skin-Saver.) // sweet little hair ties // Bobbi Brown Brushes (Because every girls needs perfect make-up brushes.)

What’s In My Makeup Bag With Proactiv®

I am a makeup fiend.  My mom says I came out with lipgloss in hand at birth.  I live for a great lipstick, a pretty blush, and my sacred compact.  I also know that as I got older, skincare is essential.  I buy everything with SPF, moisturize every night, and never ever sleep with make-up still on my face.  My make-up bag is generally a mix of lots of makeup, a great spot corrector (love Proactiv®), and cleanser.

  1. A pretty little cosmetics bag.
  2. When you’re pale, blush is a must.
  3. Proactiv® Advanced Blemish Treatment – the surefire emergency cure for an unwanted blemish.
  4. The softest lightest best-smelling concealer ever.
  5. The must-have powder compact.
  6. I’ll forever be a smoky eye kind of girl.
  7. Black liquid eyeliner.
  8. Show-stopping mascara.
  9. I also like to carry around a bright red lipstick – instant mood lifter.
  10. In case a nail chips, put glitter on it.
  11. Perfume-to-go of choice right now – Kai oil – the yummiest gardenia scent.
  12. And last but not least, sparkly pink lipgloss.

What’s in your makeup bag?

Tuesday Shoesday

Because I wore booties at my own wedding, I most definitely have a soft spot for wedding dresses paired with funky boot-type footwear.  These Chanel peep-toe booties in nude and a snakeskin grey are every inch unique and fabulous.

And something tells me style will run in that new family — check out the bride’s new husband’s blue velvet smoking flats, complete with embroidered insignia.  That is one manly choice in footwear.  (I wonder how I can convince my own hubby to rock velvet loafers?  Yeah, that’s a losing battle.)
