Celebrating Hanukkah this year? Make an easy and festive Chanukah dinner charcuterie complete with a simple board of bagels, smoked fish, latkes, and all of the fixings.
A few days into Hanukkah now, we’ve had so much fun eating all of our favorite Jewish foods to celebrate the season! Of course, we always have a Shabbat night complete with homemade matzah ball soup and challah, but this year, we also decided to go with a deli spread to celebrate one of the nights of Hanukkah. And since charcuteries are still all the rage, I thought, why not turn our Hanukkah dinner into a big, family-friendly charcuterie board? 😍
By the way, our family’s favorite matzo ball soup; a.k.a., Bubby’s homemade matzoh ball soup recipe, is rich, hearty, full of fresh herbs, and the best ever matzo balls, and is hands-down one of my favorite childhood memories in soup form (that I make again and again and again). Hint, hint: bookmark this recipe.

Easy and Festive Hanukkah Dinner Charcuterie
Now let’s talk about this year’s Hanukkah dinner (that could easily work as a Hanukkah or holiday brunch!) and how to make your very own super easy Hanukkah charcuterie!
Bagels, Smoked Fish, and Latkes, Oh My!
Making your own Hanukkah charcuterie is so easy! One of the best parts about this simple Hanukkah dinner is that you can buy everything you’ll need to serve up on your Chanukah charcuterie board at your local deli or bagel shop; no cooking required! (In other words, this is the best kind of easy dinner.)
Whether you make your own latkes or pick them up at your favorite deli or diner, everyone loves a warm latke. (By the way, frozen Trader Joe’s latkes are also quite good!) Serve up your warm latkes with sour cream and applesauce and you’ve got your latke portion covered.
After that, put out a variety of bagels, cream cheese (we typically go for plain cream cheese and chive cream cheese), tomatoes, cucumbers, sliced onions, capers, etc.
Last but not least: set out your favorite smoked fish. For us, it’s baked salmon (a.k.a., kippered salmon), though lox, nova, and smoked white fish (or whitefish salad) are also super popular choices. I like o serve tuna salad at these types of dinners (or brunches) as well because our kids love it!
For the charcuterie board itself, any large board (like an oversized wood cutting board) will work to arrange your charcuterie on. Just be sure to lay down a piece of parchment paper before arranging everything, since smoked fish can be oily.
I actually had two gold metal triangle craft forms (used for making a DIY wreath) and I realized that I could overlap them to make a Jewish star as the base of our Hanukkah charcuterie. Woohoo!
To Make Your Own Hanukkah Charcuterie:
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
- Bagels
- Cream Cheese (plain, chive, veggie, etc.)
- Sliced Cucumbers
- Sliced Tomatoes
- Sliced Onions
- Capers
- Smoked Fish (Kippered Salmon, Lox, Nova, Sable, Whitefish, etc.)
- Latkes
- Applesauce
- Sour Cream
HOW TO:
No. 1: Cook and/or heat up (if storebought) your latkes.
Fun Fact: Even Trader Joe’s sells frozen latkes (that happen to be really good!) If you have a nearby deli that makes homemade latkes, even better!
No. 2: Slice bagels.
No. 3: Set out and arrange everything on a charcuterie board. Put cream cheese, applesauce, and sour cream in ramekins or small bowls to keep those things contained. Be sure to include a stack of plates, napkins, and knives and spoons to spread and scoop.
Enjoy!
