Happy Valentine’s Day!

Pink-Heart

I just wanted to pop in to wish you all a very happy Valentine’s Day filled with lots of love … and sugar.  Tonight, hubby and I will be keeping it low key – he has to work late (today is part one of his thesis defense … we’re only a few short months away from the end of his PhD, and then he’s back into medical school and rotations – eek!)  The plan is to picnic (in the house) and watch girly movies (guess who’s idea that was?)

I have a few little “boy-appropriate gifts” for the hubby, and of course I’ll be baking (because I relish in any excuse to bake), but I may also try to put a cute DIY together – last-minute-style.

I’m completely smitten with this adorable DIY “love jar” via Inspired to Share.

This Valentine’s Day floral centerpiece is too cute and utilizes the letter mugs from Anthropologie that I’ve been completely crushing on.

Have you ever heard of a “smash cake”?  I hadn’t – but now that I’ve seen this “you are smashing” Valentine’s Day cake, it’s a party surprise must!

Or perhaps I’ll get around to building this incredible fort ( … with chairs, bath towels, and scotch tape)?

Maybe next year I’ll plan a Valentine’s Day soiree this fabulous.

What are your big plans?

Amsterdam Store Design Envy

In addition to loving great home design, I really dig a thoughtful store design (think Anthropologie, Free People, etc. – i.e., amazing and constantly-evolving store decor and themes.)  This store, Sukha Amsterdam, happens to be a million miles away from the states, but we can still swoon from a distance.

Sukha carries apparel, books, accessories, gifts and unique handmade products, a.k.a., an all around-awesome shop. And the stores’ design, though it’s props are constantly changing, has stunning high ceilings, crisp white walls and a grey painted concrete floor that I want.  Plus, there’s a tent/tepee.

Don’t you just want to throw crochet cushions on the floor and a vintage lace tablecloth over your dining room table?

Friday Link Love

I really just want a great big tent in my house — is that so much to ask?

The perfect dessert: peanut butter and jelly pie bars.

I have such a crush on this Ganni Peplum Ponte Tank. #prettyballerina

I must think of some reason to re-create this DIY metal cake bunting.  Love.

Such an inspiring workspace.

Need a sweet thank you?  Love this simple thanks: home-baked bread and jam.

And lastly: Neil, the Lion.

Currently Inspired + Mondays

Happy Monday, all!  Though I’m not generally a fan of Mondays, I leave on vacation in less than 20 days, so even Mondays feel one step closer to a plane ride far far away!

But since Mondays do in fact stink, and even answering the phone this morning feels like heavy lifting, a few of the images that are seriously inspiring me right now … (a.k.a., fashion + design = my happy place)

Aren’t the Alexander Wang fur sandals just dreamy?  And they’re on sale!

And admittedly, I think I have been drooling over the Yves Saint Laurent Arty ring for at least a year now.

Last Minute Valentine

This year, Valentine’s day sort of bit me on the butt.  Pardon my French.  And I’m a tad rattled about it being so early on in the marriage, sans romantic love day plans.  But you see, last Valentine’s day, only a few short months into our marriage, I went and got sick.  Surgery, couture wearing, hospital sick.  So this Valentine’s Day, I told myself, we’ll have a perfectly romantic well-thought-out evening.  (And yes, to me, romance, is generally thought-out.  I’m not a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants kind of girl — can’t you just hear Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman saying that?  Type-A, all the way.)  But I digress.  And then it was Tuesday … the 14th … of February.  And I had no plans.  So here we are.

Be My Valentine Homemade Pizza Recipe:  If I have time, I will definitely be trying this tonight.  (The recipe even calls for refrigerated pizza crust – my kind of easy.)  If not, it’s good old circular (greasy) pizza for the hubs.

Etched Vino Decanters:  Oh so pretty; however, ours will come in a bottle.  Hey, at least it’s not a box.  Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Red Velvet Brownies with White Chocolate Buttercream:  These have been on my to-do list for months.  Here’s to another year … on the to-do list.

Also on my to-do list – sweet card, cut-out newspaper hearts, and the world’s most phenomenal tent/fort/hybrid.  I coo-ed over that tent last Valentine’s Day, and this year is no exception.**  Only this month, I’ll be recreating said tent with towels, stacks of pillows, hair ties, and broom.  I’m willing to bet on disaster.

If all of this falls through, I’m taking my man to Waffle House.  (Seriously, major fast food chains are offering romantic Valentine’s Day packages, complete with candlelight and tater tots.)

** Sadly – last year – once I read fishing line and screw hooks, I retired from fancy fort-making.  My brilliant plan that time, “I’m going to sit on my sofa with a blanket over my head.”
