Color Brights with T.J. Maxx

Next up in my Spring Style Scout series for T.J. Maxx we’re talking color brights and neons:  vivid bright colors; coral, tropical inspiration; mixing of solids and bold prints and abstract, lightweight fabrics.  Admittedly, I tend to shy away from brighter colors.  I stick to black, white, and grey for my wardrobe staples, but I do love mixing in bold pops of color and pattern.

Versatile By Design: Six Stylish Looks With One Red Carpet Dress

When Mazda asked me to style one great dress in six fashion-forward ways to strut across a red carpet, I knew just what dress to choose.  Meet the ONE by Marna Ro maxi dress with leather bodice.  I’ve long-believed that a great black maxi dress can go a long way, and this dress, with it’s leather bodice detail, has enough oomph to last, season after season.  And Red Carpet fashion works exactly the same way – the best stylists add nods to current trends while keeping the dress bold, yet classic.  The Mazda CX-9 is no different, it’s innovative yet practical/useable design and sophisticated and timeless look always makes a striking statement and still gets you noticed.  (Dear magical fairies who drop shiny new cars with big red bows off:  feel free to surprise me with a gorgeous Mazda CX-9 in our front driveway … all black, of course.)

Neon Green Interior Decorating

This post probably has no place in the middle of all of the Holiday posts and winter-themed fashions, but these bright green walls made me smile, so I thought, why not? As for the designs, I’m not sure which I love more – the neon door or the neon claw-footed tub.  Either way, neon green in home design is awesome.

Also, does this remind anyone else of Gak?  (Am I totally wearing my “I-was-born-in-the-80s” heart on my sleeve right now?)

Summer’s Hottest Accessories

As a lifestyle blogger with a serious love of fashion, I tend to find inspiration in everything I see – from fashion to design, architecture, art, books, movies, you name it. I was born and raised in Miami, and the city’s sense of fashion tends to come out in full force in the summer months. The city comes alive with color, and we all learn to get creative when dressing for the heat. But truth be told, it’s so incredibly hot some days, that a thin dress, loose-fitting tank top, simple shorts, those become our staples, so accessories become a must for upping the fashion ante on our summer looks.

On the hunt for a few of my favorite bright accessory accents, I’ve rounded up the best accessories and pieces I’ve seen out and about and on the web this summer and uploaded them onto Instagram, all powered by the ‘Intel Ultrabook, the Ultimate Accessory for every Fashionista.’  Thanks, Intel!

My New Best Friend’s Home

I’m kind of obsessing over the home of Bettina Prentice, founder and owner of Prentice Art Communications.  I am most definitely obsessing over Bettina Prentice herself.

From Prentice: “My husband jokes that I’m the only girl who goes to a Phish show wearing Missoni and Isabel Marant.”

I’m pretty sure we could be best friends.

“All of our furniture and fabrics have a lot of texture to them,” says Prentice of her living room. “We both are obsessed with velvet and Madeline Weinrib’s pillows and rugs.”

The papier-mâché birds resting on the fireplace mantel are made from recycled cement bags by artisans in Haiti. “They were a gift from my brother Peter,” she explains.

When it comes to baubles and special pieces, Prentice shops at Opening Ceremony in SoHo or Sucre in the West Village. “They carry my favorite designers like Saya Hibino, Lulu Frost, Pamela Love, and Ayaka Nishi,” she says. “It’s all really well-edited and somewhat architectural.”

On a table in her bedroom, Prentice keeps a collection of shrunken paperback books—including those written by Hemingway, Tolstoy, and Kafka—that were designed by TANK Books in the U.K. to mimic cigarette packs; a original gift from her sister-in-law, Kate Prentice, who, fittingly, runs a literary agency in London.

In other words, I should be best friends with both sisters.

Summer Accessory Lust List

Now that Summer is officially here, I thought I’d roll out a mini list of the things I can’t stop clicking on, over and over and over again. And with my Birthday still months away, and the Holidays many months after that, I thought that by documenting my lusts, they might magically appear at my door if I talk about them … endlessly.  (It hasn’t worked yet.)

And yes, I wear boots straight through Summer.  Some habits a girl just can’t break.
