Light and Bright Home in Sweden

I fell for this beautiful airy Swedish home (owned and designed by Sofia of the lovely blog, Mokkasin; and recently featured on Elle Decoration) the moment I saw it.  The home, painted in mostly white, is full of colorful and whimsical touches, hand-crafted wood details, flea market finds, vases full of fresh flowers, books and musical instruments … so very cool.

I’m surprised how much I adore the modern-designed furniture, but in this home, it all just fits.

I’m also pretty smitten with that craft room – all of that pattern and the vintage wood filing cabinets … swoon.

Doesn’t this make you want an all-white kitchen and veranda as soon as possible?

Summer Closet Refresh

Truth time:  I was starting to drown in my closet.  My shelves were piled high with shoes from every season, and coats, dresses, jeans, you name it were all jammed together on the racks – it was all mixed in and totally terrifying.  (a.k.a., not at all what you would expect from a fashion blogger … whoops!)  Thanks to the Style Me Pretty photoshoot (you may have caught a few of these snaps of my new closet display space), and a serious need to refresh my old space (I’ve got baby on the brain!), I decided to tackle my closet head-on.  Although I couldn’t purge all of it – I am a collector (ahem … hoarder) after all – I found a way to pull out some of the pieces I love most.

For the most part, I focused on my shoes and favorite statement accessories (namely the sparkly stuff) this go-around.  Next up, I plan to pull a few of my favorite clothes and style them on a great wardrobe rack.  Tutus were meant to be seen, after all.  (I’ve had my eye on Sara’s inexpensive brass DIY garment rack for ages and it seems like the perfect way to display and organize my favorite wardrobe pieces.)

I also couldn’t have made it through the major closet overhaul without the help of my BFF, Starbucks®.  (Totally in love with Bottled Starbucks® Iced Coffee … though I’m keeping it in moderation for another seven weeks, and then I’ll be in caffeine heaven – which I’m told I’ll need with a new baby to take care of!)

Style Me Pretty: Behind the Blog + Home Feature

As you may have seen on various social media outlets in the last day or so, I am so excited to share the very big project I have been working on: a home tour and “behind the blog” double feature with one of my absolute favorite sites, Style Me Pretty Living. You cannot imagine how happy this makes me, and I truly hope you all love the features.  I’m going to share a few of my favorite shots here, but definitely head on over to Style Me Pretty Living for the full features.  (And of course, sending so many thanks to Jeremy Harwell for the incredible photography, the stylist extraordinaire Jenn Wurtzebach of The Chic Pad, and my ever-supportive hubby and sister who helped beyond measure.)

But first, a bit of background …

I’m not going to lie, when Style Me Pretty reached out asking whether I would be interested in some kind of home tour, I panicked. Hubby and I live in a pretty small space, and we’ve lived with the idea that we’re moving for the next many years for his inevitable residency, i.e., we’re surrounded by a crazy mix of hand-me-downs, inexpensive vintage finds, and DIY projects. (I was also about seven months pregnant at the time of this photoshoot, adding to the panic.)  I love our little space, and it’s so very us, but I never ever thought it was truly worthy of a “home feature” on any major publication, let alone, one of the biggest: Style Me Pretty.  Still, I wasn’t about to pass up such an incredible opportunity, so with help from a few of my favorites, and just a bit of crazy, we pulled it off.  I hope you like!

By the way, if you haven’t heard of Style Me Pretty, prepare to be amazed. SMP is a gorgeous wedding resource devoted to the modern bride, and with over 16.5 million monthly page views, it is also one of the largest online wedding sites out there; and SMP Living is a full lifestyle off-shoot of the incredibly popular brand. SMP Living has also become one of my favorite go-to resources for all things lifestyle and home (think recipes, DIY projects, behind the scenes interviews with some of my favorite business creatives, and gorgeous design).

I’ve also been getting a few questions about where different products seen in the home tour and behind the blog feature are from, so I’m listing everything below. Happy hunting!

Rustic Light-Filled Malibu Home

Actor Patrick Depsey (otherwise known as McDreamy) and his wife, Jillian, adapted one of Frank Gehry’s earliest houses into a rustic and light-filled family family home, and I’m in love.  Though I love modern elements in design, I’m ever a sucker for farm tables, exposed wood beams, Moroccan rugs, and a classic airstream. The couple also filled the 5-acre property to the brim with three kids, three dogs, and an “ever-growing menagerie of chickens, miniature donkeys, rabbits, goats, pigs, and one rescued African tortoise.”  The lush backyard is equipped with a broad, flat lawn for soccer games, planting beds for vegetables and flowers, an alfresco kitchen with a pizza oven, a breezy dining area topped by a canopy of woven wicker, and coops, hutches, and other enclosures for the Dempseys’ growing farm.

That kitchen is everything … seriously swooning over the floating butcher’s block, concrete sink and countertops, silver range and hood, and that awesome over-sized chalkboard.

Home Tour: Maria of Dreamy Whites

Though it should come as no surprise, bloggers always have some of the most styled, elegant homes.  I on the other hand, spread my little creative outbursts across office/craft-room (that my husband put so much hard work into … and I now litter with ribbon, glitter, stamps, needles, office files, sandwich bags, my mind), kitchen counter, dining room table, coffee tables, nightstand, and bursting out of every drawer.

Back to the bloggers with the elegant homes …

stephmodo featured Maria’s home – the blogger behind Dreamy Whites – and it is just lovely.  Maria lives on a horse ranch in Northern California, where her husband is a professional trainer.  She’s transformed her home into a French-inspired farmhouse, all awash in soft whites.  I’m thinking of asking to move in.

For the full feature and all of the I-need-a-vacation-inducing pictures, visit stephmodo.

Interiors: Country Store Home

Interior designer Barbara Westbrook lives in the village of Whittier Mill in Atlanta, Georgia in a home that was previously a general store.  In fact, many of the re-purposed shelves were leftover from the original store. And most of the interesting pieces of furniture that Barbara has gathered over the years, from the gorgeous leather club chair to the white Klismos chairs around the dining table and the weathered blue Swedish armoire, are amongst her favorite finds.
