Truthfully, I fell in love with the vintage bikini look when I saw Allie (played by Rachel McAdams) rocking that gorgeous high-waisted two piece bikini in The Notebook. After that, I tried my very first high-waisted bikini bottom (a smocked version by Tori Praver) — that bikini flattered my hips and tush in all of the best ways, and actually kept my petite-meets-curvy figure looking sexy and adorable; hands down the best bikini bottoms I have ever worn. And lately, stores are stocking their shelves with retro bathing suits for Spring, and I’m trying to resist the urge to snatch up at least three new swimsuits. Today’s retro-inspired one-pieces and high-waisted bikinis are modest-ish but still sexy, and back in style in a big way … and I couldn’t be more excited! I’m dreaming of a beach getaway in one of these 15 throwback bathing suits perfect to take you through Spring and Summer.
Completely obsessed with this striped bikini-meets-one-piece hybrid by Lolli Swim and this deep-V halter by 6 Shore Road.
And don’t forget, Shopbop‘s BIG Friends & Family Sale is going on now – that’s a 25% off sitewide sale (a.k.a., the biggest Shopbop F&F sale of the year!)

The moment I spotted this West Australian beach house, with it’s rustic porch and gorgeous casual tablescape, I knew I’d be dreaming of that spot by the beach. And with Summer finally coming to a close, all I really want is the last bit of that beachy feel, especially in design. So I re-imagined the ocean-side table, set indoors.

This weekend I’ll be running all over South Beach to make it to as many Miami Beach Fashion Week SWIM events as I possibly can. Here’s to hoping I don’t melt, or worse, that my hair turns into a Miami Summer frizz ball. I love Miami, by the way. Love living here, love the people, love the food and culture, but truth: none of us step outside our homes from July through September, unless we’re in a bikini (and headed for the beach) or it’s Miami SWIM. It’s just that hot.
So here’s to hoping my hair, makeup, and flowy maxi dresses survive the weekend. (By the way, My sister and her amazingly talented bff, Rachel, will be attempting to put my hair up in a crazy braided design first thing tomorrow morning. All braided updo suggestions welcome!) And be sure to follow along on twitter and instagram!

After watching everyone on their instagram feeds and blogs snapping photo after photo on their fourth of July weekend beach getaways last week, I’m longing for the beach. And though this weekend will be just another weekend (though I’m calling it a staycation, a.k.a., blogging from the sofa, errands, and baking), a girl can always dream of a weekend beach getaway.

A few weeks ago I went on and on about my love for sunscreen, and Hawaiian Tropic in particular. The new formula really is your Summer skin’s best friend: lightweight (finally a lotion that isn’t oily or greasy!) plus a high SPF. I am also loving Hawaiian tropics new push – celebrating the whole woman, inside and out – after reinventing themselves with a new modernized brand to better appeal to today’s Hawaiian Tropic women, who love how the sun and their beauty products make them feel, but also understand the importance of sun care in helping to keep their skin healthy.
Well through July 18th, you can visit the Hawaiian Tropic Facebook tab to Vote on 5 Finalists for the “New Face” of Hawaiian Tropic campaign! (The new face will be revealed on July 19th.)
And remember, The New Face program seeks a woman who embodies everything Hawaiian Tropic now stands for: beauty, confidence, trend-setting and indulgence.

They say absence makes the heart grow fonder, and it’s been far too long since my last trip to the beach. I know that’s weird and all, given that we live in Miami, and I really have no excuse. Miami Beach tends to be a bit of a tourist destination. Most Miami natives know how to find the quieter local beaches, but we rarely visit during Fall and Winter. It’s totally nonsensical, because even on our coldest Winter day (we’re talking mid fifties here, people), most Miami-ans are bundled up in a coat and scarf, when the rest of the country would probably relish in that kind of weather.
And yes, I am that girl who paints her nails at the beach. I also over-pack on the snacks, cover myself in sunscreen, and snap a million photos. And I love every minute of it. Which is why, I’m seriously dreaming of the beach. I’m hoping to sneak a quick weekend getaway with hubby soon, preferably somewhere full of ocean, sand, and beach-side cocktails.

Speaking of the beach, I wanted to take minute to get on my SPF train (because, of course, I’ve already professed my love for sunscreen). I’m always trying out new sunscreen formulas — I love a lightweight lotion that isn’t oily or greasy and packs a high SPF for my pale skin. And Hawaiian Tropic does just that!
Hawaiian Tropic has recently gone through a little reinvention of their own with a new modernized brand to better appeal to today’s Hawaiian Tropic women, who love how the sun and their beauty products make them feel, but also understand the importance of sun care in helping to keep their skin healthy (which I love!) And the famed brand is moving away from its Bikini Contest and searching for a new spokesperson through the “New Face” contest.
- - On the Hawaiian Tropic Facebook page, women can enter to become the new face of the brand and/or vote for the person that they feel best represents the modern Hawaiian Tropic woman.
- - Contest Entries will be accepted from 4/22 – 5/31.
- - The new face will be revealed on July 19th, and will be featured in new advertising, receive a complimentary tropical vacation and serve as an official brand spokesperson!

I swear even without much of a winter, all of the cold-weather inspiration online, on television, and in catalogs makes me long for Summer again … and I live in Miami (blocks from the ocean, i.e., I have no excuse … and yet, I remain pale and so very far from the beach.) These pictures remind me why I should dip my toes in the sand every now and then. Spotted on Honestly WTF, these photos are a series created by Australian bloggers Zanita and Margaret shot in Phuket, Thailand, featuring Margaret, a ballerina herself, and her incredible talent. Dresses include beauties by Zimmerman, Stylestalker, and Morrison.
