Dreamy West Virginia Wedding at an Old Glass Factory

Beautiful parties and weddings come in all shapes and sizes – some are small, and some are lavish, and plenty are somewhere in between; and sometimes, it’s the simple events, pulled together with love, that truly shine. When wedding photographer, Britani Edwards shared this stunning West Virginia wedding, I knew I had to feature it. Held at an old glass factory behind a private residence, and created as a Plan B, this special wedding is nothing short of dreamy.

From Britani, “This couple reached out to me with a heart touching story and I couldn’t help but fall in love … The couple, high school sweethearts, had been planning a large luxurious wedding. Circumstances arose and their dream of a large wedding was pushed aside. We were able to put together this wedding for this couple by bringing local vendors together and creating a wedding of their dreams, styled to a T!”

Each vendor brought in their own unique spin to the ethereal navy and blush styled wedding shoot, from the table linens, to the invitation suite, to the jaw-dropping dessert spread complete with towering naked cake.

“The bride and groom were beyond grateful to all those involved! The love that was shared throughout the day was so touching and I think all of us small business owners walked away with memories of why we even started our wedding businesses in the first place.”

A Fashion Blogger’s Stunning Wedding Dress

I’ve long been a fan of following fashion blogger Alexandra Pereira, a.k.a. the Lovely Pepa, on Instagram. Her colorful snaps will no doubt give you major closet envy and one serious case of wanderlust. It wasn’t until I scrolled across an image of her in the most stunning wedding dress on her wedding day, that I nearly stopped in my tracks. Alexandra wed her then-fiancé in Lebanon this Summer in a shimmering dress so gorgeous, you may just fall in love (with the dress, that is.) The magical gown is a creation by Spanish label, Santos Costura, and one look at their Instagram feed will prove they know dreamy dresses.

Pereira’s wedding dress is the perfect combination of heavy sparkle and delicate sheer. And the stunning open back further highlights how gorgeously intricate the glittering flowers that make up the bodice truly are. I can’t stop swooning.

Behind-the-Scenes: Serenity and Rose Quartz Wedding Inspiration Styled Shoot

A few months back, I teamed up with a few amazing and talented vendors to put together this Pantone-inspired wedding inspiration styled shoot using Pantone’s colors of the year, Serenity and Rose Quartz. The shoot’s theme: a paper-crafted wedding. With so many adventurous DIY brides trying out a few handmade details of their own for their big day, we loved the idea of sharing simple ways to DIY details of your wedding ahead of time while still knowing where and when to hire the pros so that you can enjoy the big day.

Behind-the-Scenes:

In the world of weddings and styled shoots, if you’re trying to get something published in a magazine or on one of the many huge wedding blogs, you have to sit tight and NOT share anything from the shoot until it’s featured. Try telling that to a group of unbelievably excited creatives! We’ve all been nearly bursting with excitement to share this shoot, and then we got the e-mail: we were being published on Ruffled Blog. I couldn’t be more proud, and I’m so excited to share a few special behind-the-scenes details that made the shoot the stunning wedding inspiration that (I hope) it is. Be prepared; it’s a long one with plenty of funny details that go into the making of a styled shoot!

I was crazy for this paper backdrop idea. Using oversized 3D paper pinwheels, balls, and flowers and plenty of clear tape, we hung up this gorgeous paper archway as the ceremony backdrop (and a great place to take photos during the party.) We weaved in metallics – gold, silver, and bronze, to give the Pantone colors a bit more oomph and contrast.

Notice anything familiar? Totally snuck in the clear acrylic chairswe use for parties and my favorite souk rug straight from Scarlett’s nursery.

*We get asked about these chairs ALL OF THE TIME. They’re copies of the much-pricier ghost chairs. You can get them on Amazon!

My jaw dropped when I saw the flowers that Eclectic Sage had brought to the shoot. And Mikkel of Mikkel Paige Photography captured everything in such a gorgeous light. I may never stop sharing these photos.

We decorated the tabletops with plenty of flowers, candlesticks and votives, my favorite gold flatware, geometric cups and glassware (These are THE best because they’re plastic! Hey, you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do when living life with a toddler!), gold chargers (Total score from Big Lots! Remember our dining room tour with them?), beautiful paper details, and plenty of metallics mixed in with our pantone colors.

Sarah of Bella Joviality designed these awesome laser cut “we tied… the knot” decals to put on the bride and groom’s chairs and then we used ribbon tied in a knot to connect their seats.

We wanted to add a pop of color to the bride’s stunning tulle overlay dress (Yes! There’s a lace mini dress under her flowing tulle skirt!); so we used one of the ribbons from our chairs to wrap around her waist and the bride wore a necklace my Aunt got me years ago in Israel. It really is so exciting when all of the little details come together so effortlessly. (Aaaand this is why my car is filled to the brim with accessories and decorative items on shoot days.)

Details like a signature strawberry kiwi cocktail with rock candy stirrers and plenty of rosé wine were a yummy addition and fit right in with our color scheme.

We even had the food catered by Belle’s Catering (who are always amazing to work with!) When in need of a backdrop for your buffet station, casually pick up one of the venue’s room dividers and put it on top of the counter. Perfect backdrop. The food was displayed with hand-lettering on glass panes and mercury glass votive holders and vases.

The caterers’ attention to detail was just incredible.

The dessert table was also tons of fun to put together. We used the white triangle paper backdrop, and a stunning geometric shape cake designed by Sugar Euphoria as the centerpiece.

Wedding Style: Drop-waist Bridesmaids Dresses

With Spring-time comes all of the gorgeous wedding goodness that goes along with it. Sigh … I just love a Spring wedding. And as much as I love the party-planning and décor (and as evidenced by my blog, I really, really love it!), I adore great wedding fashion. This bride dressed her bridesmaids in matching off-white dresses with a twist: a drop-waist and sleeves. The sheer detailing and embroidered detail give the dress a bit more elegance, but this is most definitely one of those bridesmaids dresses a girl could wear again an again. And how cool is it that wearing the tied pearls along with the drop-waist style truly gives that nod to the roaring twenties. Love that touch of vintage style.

By the way, if you want to snag their style, this drop-waist crêpe H&M dress is pretty similar and under $50 and this lace drop-waist H&M dress is under $30!

And you know, in case you weren’t sure the bride had major style, just look at the backless silhouette of her lace wedding gown. Swoon.

The Perfect Proposal Plan

In just a few days, hubby and I will be celebrating our five-year wedding anniversary. I can’t believe we were married five years ago, or that he proposed a little over six years ago. Sometimes it feels just like yesterday, with a baby and so many great memories squeezed in.

We met at a mall, where he worked, when I was sixteen, and he was seventeen. We were inseparable after that. And like all good love stories, he proposed years later, at that same mall, in the exact spot where we first met. Spoiler alert: I said “yes.” (You can read a bit about why I fall in love again every day, here.)

Funny enough, I joke with my husband all of the time that I hope he proposes to me again and again. I want to get married again and again too. There is something about those moments, the great moments that are forever ingrained in your memory. The day we met; looking up at him, sitting on a wall outside the movie theater, and knowing. I really did just know. The day he proposed. Dirty hair after a long day at work; flip flops thrown on haphazardly when he suggested dinner on that fateful Tuesday night – because I had been in court that day, and I wouldn’t dare stumble around in my heels for another minute after so many hours on my feet – and he popped the question with a beautiful ring and speech that all feels like a happy blur now. The day we stood in front of our closest family and friends by our favorite lake in Maine, and he said “I do” and I said “I do” and we both cried. The day our baby girl was placed into my arms, after hours of fear and pain and worry; I held her and my husband’s strong hand and the world just felt infinitely more wonderful. The really good stuff.

Selfishly, I want more. I want those feelings again and again. So I’m dreaming up the next proposal; you know, to save my hubby some work. I want to be proposed to in Maine, where we were married (because it feels so very us.)

The Perfect Shabby Chic Picnic Proposal The Perfect Shabby Chic Picnic Proposal

Then if I really had my way, I’d love a dreamy picnic, set on our cabin deck (and lest you think I’ve jumped off the deep end and gone all campy on you, we got married in Maine at a resort with very awesome cabins), complete with champagne, snacks, and another vintage-inspired diamond sparkler wouldn’t be half bad either. Then I want to eat s’mores and talk about our memories late into the night, even though we’ve told the stories to one another a hundred times, I love them still.

How a Backdrop Can Transform a Wedding or Party (Plus, a DIY Wax Paper Backdrop)

Now that I’ve started styling little parties and shoots here and there (more on that later!), I’ve learned the importance of a great backdrop for beautiful backgrounds.

A simple backdrop can really transform a wedding or party. For instance, with just a flamingo print sheet hung up as a backdrop, this flamingo-inspired birthday party is totally transformed, and the pictures are oh so cute.

How to Use a Backdrop to Transform a Party or Wedding - DIY White Wax Paper Hanging Backdrop - glitterinc.com

A few Clever Ways to Use a Backdrop to Transform a Party or Wedding:

  • a backdrop for the dessert table or drink station;
  • the bride and groom photographed in front of a great backdrop is pure gold! (They can even get married in front of the backdrop as a makeshift wedding arch/arbor);
  • as a room divider (picture pretty hanging flowers to separate a large ballroom space);
  • as an entrance or exit to and from a ceremony;
  • and of course, for adorable photo booth style photos.

Which brings me to this white wax paper hanging backdrop – which you can make yourself. It’s incredible how strands of wax paper circles can look so magical, but there you have it.

DIY White Wax Paper Hanging Backdrop, and why a simple backdrop can really transform a wedding or party.
