Home Design Trends: Chic Door Knob Tassels

Fall marks a few big shifts in seasonal trends – especially when it comes to home décor and design. I for one, count down the seconds until I can break out the cozy blankets, wreaths, and pumpkin spice candles. I’ve already bought my mums for the front door, and surely, more flowers and pumpkins will join them soon. (Remember last year’s front porch?) And wreaths … what can I say? Since becoming a homeowner, I pretty much want to put wreaths on every door. But ever thought about adding chic door knob tassels as a bit of flair and warmth for your door? Especially on interior door knobs and handles – like those entering bedrooms, nurseries, closets, etc. – a hanging door tassel adds an unexpectedly chic piece of inspiration and either color or texture (or both!) that will give your space just a touch more flair.

There are so many chic door knob tassels available (HINT: also look for curtain tassel tiebacks and finials), and they’re all pretty inexpensive, so you can go nuts and throw one on just about every door knob in your house. A few favorite places to hunt for the perfect door knob tassels: Etsy (swooning over these macramé door tassels, this boho pom pom tassel, and this pom pom tassel door hanger), Amazon, Anthropologie (loving this tassel tieback, and these Bombay tassel finials and tassel tiebacks), marshMELLO, and Baba Souk. You can also make your own door tassels out of string or yarn. Loving this bold DIY door handle tassel crafted using rope and string and this colorful DIY Pom Pom Tassel Doorknob Swag.

Any favorite door knob tassels? Let me know in the comments below!

A Rustic Minimalist Italian Vacation Home

Sometimes you need an escape, or at the very least, to dream about an escape. Something far away, and quiet. Preferably somewhere with pasta.

Masseria Angiulli Piccolo is a gorgeously-restored vineyard Italian vacation home from the 18th-century. Located in the center of Puglia, Italy, this is a vacation-worthy retreat at it’s finest.  Nestled along 500 miles of coastline, the sprawling rustic property also serves as home to stunning private weddings and events, but it’s the “vacation” aspect that has me all googly-eyed. This is modern rustic minimalism, packed with history.

Oh, and apparently Meryl Streep now owns a house in Puglia and it’s also where Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel were married back in 2010. It’s that spectacular.

Right down to it’s very landscape, lush with olive groves and prickly pear cactus, everything about this Italian vacation home announces that it is indeed an escape.

And can we talk about this dramatic indoor space? Sweeping cathedral ceilings and limestone floors, french doors and gobs of natural light; swoon.

Each room of this Italian vacation home is sprawling in open space and a minimalist design. There’s something so dreamy and promising about an open, clutter-free space to relax in.

6 Living Room Ideas To Make Your Room More Inviting

This post is part of a paid sponsorship 3M Window Film. All opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting the sponsors who help to make Glitter, Inc. possible!

Sometimes, as a parent, you take a look around at your living room, and realize that it has become ground zero for all of the toys, books, games, bean bag chairs, discarded blankets, piles of mail, and laptop computers. Errr, at least, that’s exactly how our living room looks … all of the time. This summer, with Scarlett’s big birthday party, and preparing for baby number two, I’ve tried to make a conscious effort to give our family living space a bit of a facelift and to make the living room more inviting.

Through trial and error, and playing an interior designer on Pinterest (come on, you know you do too!) and in our own home, I’ve rounded up 6 living room ideas to make your living room more inviting.

6 Living Room Ideas To Make It More Inviting by NC lifestyle blogger Glitter, Inc.

Find Pretty Ways to Store the Mess.

Baskets are your BFF. I’m a big fan of these belly baskets (and here and here and here) because they look stylish, but are deceptively deep and can hide a lot of toys and clutter in one easy cleanup. We also use ours to stack and store throw pillows and folded blankets.

You’ll also almost always see a French market basket hanging by our front door. (An ode to the French market basket, right here.) This lifesaver of a carryall is perfect to throw on your arm for trips to the farmers market, the beach, a playdate or visit to the park, you name it. When you’re done using it, hang it back up as a pretty decorative piece. Because we have ours by the front door, I also like to keep our dog, Belly’s leash in there, plus a few other odds and ends I toss in in an effort to tidy up.

Last but not least, square storage bins. If you have any piece of furniture with cubbies or shelves, square baskets or storage bins can be a total game-changer. They hide the mess you would otherwise normally stuff haphazardly into those shelves, and they always look organized and tidy … even if you’re not.

Bring in Natural Elements.

Plants make a huge difference in any living space. Whether real or faux, bringing in greenery can make a living room (or any room, for that matter) feel instantly more inviting, natural, and bright.

If you have a black thumb (#guilty), look for stylish faux greenery. Faux plants are really popular in home décor right now, and there are plenty of great finds online. Loving these palm leaf branches, this fiddle leaf fig tree, this snake plant in the cutest stand, and both this set of olive trees and this larger olive tree. With any of these living room ideas, you’d never know they weren’t real plants.

Don’t Make Your Television the Focal Point.

In our last  house, our large TV was front and center, and right over the fireplace. It drove me crazy to lose my precious mantle (yep, I love decorating a good mantle!), and I always felt like the whole focus of the room was on the television. In our new house, the TV is off to the side, on a beautiful piece of furniture, and I’m so much happier.

Plus, when company comes over, the television doesn’t take away from conversation, etc.

Someday, I’d love to conceal our television behind some kind of custom cabinetry, but until then, even just having the TV off to the side, has made a big difference.

Throw Pillows Are Always a Good Idea.

It’s no secret that I love and regularly harness the power of a good throw pillow, or three. They instantly glam up and breathe new life into a space, and depending on the season, can really give the room a whole new look. Plus, pillows are comfy. Talk about inviting.

Put a Rug on It.

Even if your floors are carpeted, but especially if they’re wood, laminate, or tile, adding a cozy soft rug, with a bit of texture, can really brighten up and soften the look of a living room. Don’t break the bank by hunting for the perfect 8×10 rug. A small-ish rug that fits between your two sofas, chair and sofa, or sectional, and/or under a coffee table, is really all you’ll need to add that inviting affect.

Remember your windows.

Ever find that those huge windows that let in all of that dreamy light when you first laid eyes on your would-be home let in TOO much light? We’ve totally run into that problem this summer in our home. We have these two huge windows that let in gorgeous natural light – and we all know how good lighting can make a space feel more inviting – but it can also make the room feel like a furnace on hot summer days.

3M Window Film for residential use has the solution; and it’s a pretty genius fix. Both the 3M™ Sun Control Window Film Prestige Series and 3M™ Thinsulate™ Window Film Climate Control Series work wonders for your living space.

3M Residential Window Film is a professionally installed product that can be used to improve the comfort, energy efficiency and look of any room in your home. Professionally installed window films offer a turnkey solution to addressing heat and UV exposure at home, provides an easy alternative to comprehensive window replacement, increases energy efficiency, and decreases fading and protects interior investments. Plus, 3M Sun Control window film’s low interior and exterior reflectivity lets you enjoy the views from inside, while maintaining an attractive look from outside. 3M Thinsulate also protects against heat loss in colder weather; seriously, so efficient.

Books With A View

Sometimes you stumble across Instagram gems that are too good not to share. I love Instagram for that very reason. My sister and I are always marveling at gorgeous Instagram accounts; people with so much talent, and something truly unique to share.

Carolyn; a.k.a., The Slow Traveler, is a British photographer, who, not surprisingly, takes stunning snaps in and around her city. But what really stands out on her wanderlust-fueled travel feed: her room with a view; a room, surrounded by books. Don’t we all lust after a huge floor-to-ceiling window, that lets in all of that dreamy daylight, and looks out onto something stunning? Throw in stacks of gorgeous vintage books and you’ve got yourself Instagram gold. Carolyn shares the occasional glimpse of the same window, adorned with stacks of books styled in every which way, and it never gets old.

15 Must-Have Home Décor Pieces (and They’re ALL On Sale)

Last year, in my quest to fill my cart with ALL of the booties on sale, I realized that the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale also boasted an amazing selection of home décor pieces that were majorly discounted for a limited time. The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale really is one of the best times to scoop up some items for your home as well as your closet – especially with the change of seasons coming quicker than you know it. With a new little one on the way, I have both a nursery and toddler room to decorate, plus their bathroom to update. I have my eye on this crochet shower curtain and these Turkish towels for the girls’ bathroom, and I keep coming back to this amazing linen duvet cover for our own bedroom.

Psst … all of my Nordstrom Anniversary Sale picks are right here!

So without further ado, I’m sharing my 15 favorite picks from the home décor section at this year’s Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!

15 Must-Have Home Décor Pieces (and They're ALL On Sale). Click through for the details. | glitterinc.com | @glitterinc

Delilah Woven Wall Hanging, on sale for $35.90 – This one keeps on selling out, but seems to be restocked throughout the sale. Keep your eyes peeled and snatch it up when it’s available again. You can’t beat that price for such a pretty wall hanging. (This woven wall hanging is equally adorable.)

Fancy Five-Piece Gallery Wall Art Print Set, on sale for $65.90 – Every year, a few of these print sets go on sale, and I always dream about snatching them up. They’re an instant gallery wall, and always work so well on a blank canvas. (I’m also loving this Framed Plus White Wall Art and this Midnight Cacti Framed Wall Art.)

Two-Tone Metallic Straw Basket, on sale for $24.90 – We have two of these baskets in our house and I use them for everything. I’ve never seen one of the extra pretty two-tone/metallic versions on sale this cheap.

diptyque Scented Candle Set, $55 (a $75 value) – Use these to store lipsticks and jewelry once the candle runs out. I also love these sets because they’re a great way to try out all of the amazing diptyque scents.

Bliss Plush Throw, on sale for $25.90 – I love this blanket so much, I’m thinking of buying it in a second color. (Already ordered in the “vanilla.”) It really is that buttery soft.

Barefoot Dreams Heathered Throw Blanket, on sale for $89 – The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is one of the only times of the year that the amazing Barefoot Dreams  blankets go on sale. We have three – one I use every night in our bedroom, one I use on our sofa, and one Scarlett has claimed as her own. They’re that good.

Sherpa Lines Wool Rug, on sale for as low as $125.90 – Large neutral rugs are hard to find on a budget. This one is unbelievably on-trend and made of 100% wool. If you’ve been searching for the right large rug, this is it!

Clean Bath Rug, on sale for $21.90 – SO cute.

Year Round Down Comforter – The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is a great time to buy a new duvet comforter, and these Nordstrom Home year round comforters are great quality and LAST.

Turkish Pestemal Towel, on sale for $21.90 (regularly $34) – These turkish towels make such a pretty statement hanging on a bathroom wall, but they’re also great to bring to a picnic, to the beach, or to wrap up in on a cool summer night.

Coppertone Table Lamp, on sale for $59.90 (regularly $90) – This is the kind of lamp that fits in to almost any room design. It’s sleek and modern and on major discount for a limited time.

You Are My Sunshine Wall Art, on sale for $46.90 – With a new baby on the way, and a toddler ready for her “big girl” room, I’ve got decorating on the brain. Wouldn’t this sweet sign make the perfect addition to a kids room or nursery? (It’s made of vintage metal and reclaimed wood.)

Zira Euro Sham, on sale for $29.90 – These fringed beauties would make such a fun addition to any bohemian bedding set.

Mixed Stripe Sequin Accent Pillow, on sale for $39.90 – I love the pattern, fringe, and sequins on this Moroccan-inspired throw pillow, and it easily works in every season.

Picnic Pouf – If you’ve been searching for a bit of extra seating for your living room, that doesn’t take up too much space, these striped poufs are perfection. They lighten up a space, add a fun seating option, and slide easily under a coffee or console table for maximum space-saving.

A Bright White & Rustic Home Decor in a California Home, Updated for Summer

If you don’t yet follow Michelle Janeen on Instagram, and you have a soft spot for dreamy white beach interiors, the time is now. In the Spring, she shared her entire bright white California home tour on Nesting With Grace, but if you’re a regular follower of Michelle’s Instagram, you may have noticed that in the last few weeks she’s been sharing the most gorgeous glimpses of her beautiful home including some rustic home decor, updated for Summer. The San Diego mom’s style is brimming with cool, California style, and plenty of soft rustic home decor touches. Her “1970’s fixer” is the stuff vacation house dreams are made of.

It’s amazing what bringing in a few live green plants, some brighter pillows, and summery accents can do. By the way, crushing on Michelle’s Summer pillows? I shared 18 neutral throw pillows a few weeks back, and I think you’re going to love them!

Michelle also regularly brings in fresh clippings from her yard. Wouldn’t it be nice to have olive branches and eucalyptus right in your own backyard? Meanwhile, I’ll be trolling Trader Joe’s for ALL of the greenery.
