Behind-the-Scenes: Serenity and Rose Quartz Wedding Inspiration Styled Shoot

A few months back, I teamed up with a few amazing and talented vendors to put together this Pantone-inspired wedding inspiration styled shoot using Pantone’s colors of the year, Serenity and Rose Quartz. The shoot’s theme: a paper-crafted wedding. With so many adventurous DIY brides trying out a few handmade details of their own for their big day, we loved the idea of sharing simple ways to DIY details of your wedding ahead of time while still knowing where and when to hire the pros so that you can enjoy the big day.

Behind-the-Scenes:

In the world of weddings and styled shoots, if you’re trying to get something published in a magazine or on one of the many huge wedding blogs, you have to sit tight and NOT share anything from the shoot until it’s featured. Try telling that to a group of unbelievably excited creatives! We’ve all been nearly bursting with excitement to share this shoot, and then we got the e-mail: we were being published on Ruffled Blog. I couldn’t be more proud, and I’m so excited to share a few special behind-the-scenes details that made the shoot the stunning wedding inspiration that (I hope) it is. Be prepared; it’s a long one with plenty of funny details that go into the making of a styled shoot!

I was crazy for this paper backdrop idea. Using oversized 3D paper pinwheels, balls, and flowers and plenty of clear tape, we hung up this gorgeous paper archway as the ceremony backdrop (and a great place to take photos during the party.) We weaved in metallics – gold, silver, and bronze, to give the Pantone colors a bit more oomph and contrast.

Notice anything familiar? Totally snuck in the clear acrylic chairswe use for parties and my favorite souk rug straight from Scarlett’s nursery.

*We get asked about these chairs ALL OF THE TIME. They’re copies of the much-pricier ghost chairs. You can get them on Amazon!

My jaw dropped when I saw the flowers that Eclectic Sage had brought to the shoot. And Mikkel of Mikkel Paige Photography captured everything in such a gorgeous light. I may never stop sharing these photos.

We decorated the tabletops with plenty of flowers, candlesticks and votives, my favorite gold flatware, geometric cups and glassware (These are THE best because they’re plastic! Hey, you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do when living life with a toddler!), gold chargers (Total score from Big Lots! Remember our dining room tour with them?), beautiful paper details, and plenty of metallics mixed in with our pantone colors.

Gold sequin pillows, guys, You can never go wrong with sequins. You know, in moderation.

How cute are these

Sarah of Bella Joviality designed these awesome laser cut “we tied… the knot” decals to put on the bride and groom’s chairs and then we used ribbon tied in a knot to connect their seats.

Details like laser cut names on paper placemats, the paper triangle backdrop behind the cake [You may remember seeing me putting together that beast on Snapchat → glitterinclexi (lots of fun behind-the-scenes there!)], even subtle paper details incorporated into the boutonniere and bouquet.

How cute were our models? This was a great practice run for them because they’re getting married later this year!

We wanted to add a pop of color to the bride’s stunning tulle overlay dress (Yes! There’s a lace mini dress under her flowing tulle skirt!); so we used one of the ribbons from our chairs to wrap around her waist and the bride wore a necklace my Aunt got me years ago in Israel. It really is so exciting when all of the little details come together so effortlessly. (Aaaand this is why my car is filled to the brim with accessories and decorative items on shoot days.)

Details like a signature strawberry kiwi cocktail with rock candy stirrers and plenty of rosé wine were a yummy addition and fit right in with our color scheme.

We even had the food catered by Belle’s Catering (who are always amazing to work with!) When in need of a backdrop for your buffet station, casually pick up one of the venue’s room dividers and put it on top of the counter. Perfect backdrop. The food was displayed with hand-lettering on glass panes and mercury glass votive holders and vases.

The caterers’ attention to detail was just incredible.

The dessert table was also tons of fun to put together. We used the white triangle paper backdrop, and a stunning geometric shape cake designed by Sugar Euphoria as the centerpiece.

I loved that the couples’ sweet sendoff included these adorable handmade “yay” flags and more confetti. The bride wore a top and skirt sewn and put together by Alterations by Kali just for the shoot!

Dress of the Week

Charleston Winter Wedding - blue dress

This stunning wedding dress takes “something blue” to a whole new level.  And after falling in love with that blue and white silk Valentino dress in the Street Style Trend Report on florals, this bustled wedding dress easily stole my heart.  (I’m always game for a bold wedding dress, especially one with a gorgeous blue print and a classic French nod!)

The bride also happens to have such a way with accessories … those gold Gucci sandals are oh-so right!

Screw Cuff Bracelet {Splurge or Save}

Miansai-Screw-Cuff-Bracelet-+-Jerome-Dreyfudd-Leopard-Clutch-+-Rodin-via-Andy-Heart

After coming to terms with the fact that a Cartier LOVE bracelet (with it’s several-thousand-dollar price tag) was probably not the bracelet for me (at least for now), I searched high and low for a stay-put gold alternative.  And I quickly found the screw cuff bracelet.  A little bit industrial and so very chic, this style keeps catching my attention again and again.  It’s the perfect everyday bracelet with a lot of drama.  The high-end version of the screw cuff bracelet, by Céline, is every inch gorgeous, but the Miansai screw cuff bracelets may just have my heart.

Even Rachel Zoe’s team rocks the Miansai screw cuff bracelets.  And though the Miansai screw cuff bracelets are still a bit on the pricey side, they seem like a classic and a staple for any solid bracelet lover.

Stunning Gold + Cream Wedding Dress

gold_sequin_stripes_glam_spring_wedding_utah_dress

I love a unique wedding dress, and this short-sleeved blush gold dress, with a skirt covered in sequins with a floral tulle train is every inch unique and gorgeous.  And the really extra special thing about this dress?  The bride made it!

From the designer/bride: “Designing wedding dresses and formal wear is my passion and I was finally able to execute the dress of my dreams last fall. Ever since I can remember I had been sketching and accumulating ideas for my wedding, I had even been collecting fabric for my gown during the past couple years. The sequin part of my gown was actually a dress from J.Crew Collection that I bought in 2010 knowing that it needed to be part of my wedding gown because it was so incredibly gorgeous. I took the semester off of school to design and make my wedding gown (and all the wedding decorations). I started on the bottom half of my gown first because that design was pretty solidified in my head. After countless hours of hand-sewing organza and chiffon flowers with hundreds of beads the skirt part was complete and I was in love! The top proved to be more difficult. I could not pick one idea to stick with. There were so many elements I wanted to incorporate and when I finally designed the final bodice I knew it was the perfect match. I sewed on every bead and rhinestone while catching up on Netflix and missing my fiancé who was interning in another state at the time. After more than 250 hours of labor and over 3,000 beads the dress was complete and it was exactly what I wanted!”

Holiday Metallics: Gilded Gold Nails

I’ve always been a lover of metallics, and in the Fall and winter, when everything is decorated in silver and gold, I can’t help but want to incorporate more of the sparkly fashions into my own everyday routine. I’ve actually found that incorporating a bit of shimmer and sparkle into my beauty routine has really added a fun element to everyday looks, it’s helped me to change up my beauty routine (which I admittedly rarely break from), and it’s an excuse to try new products.  My two latest finds:  gold eye shadow – even just a hint paired with mascara and my standard black eyeliner, and … drumroll … these amazing essie® Sleek Stick Stickers, found at Target.

I have been on an endless hunt to get those perfect gold foil nails.  I love a great gold nail polish (essie’s Good as Gold is a personal favorite of mine), but that shimmery look was just not what I was on the hunt for.  I wanted gold gold.  And then I discovered the essie® Sleek Stick Stickers in Oh My Gold!  And Oh My Gold! is right.

They may take a tiny bit of practice to perfect – but they really are just stickers – so aside from placing them well enough on your bare nails, and filing off the excess sticker at the ends, they look utterly professionally when you’re done applying them.  They also last amazingly well – mine stayed on a solid week (baking, showering, and gym included).  I actually had to peel the nail stickers off after a while because my nails were growing out underneath them.

I also think these essie® Sleek Stick Stickers would look really pretty over painted nails (TIP: Try a warm Fall/Winter shade like Stylenomics, Miss Fancy Pants, or a classic black or red) or on one or two nails as a glittery accent nail!

DIY Dip-Dye Glitter Pumpkins

It’s no secret that I’m a glitter fanatic, and this project is simple and utilizes a whole lot of glitter. I am also admittedly one of the many who obsesses over all things pumpkin during the Fall holidays. Dipping the pumpkins in glitter is easy and fun, and looks really fancy. Basically, this DIY is perfect for me … and I suspect, for a lot of you too.

DIY glitter pumpkins halloween _ glitterinc.com

And of course, these glitter-dipped pumpkins are perfect for a Halloween decoration or as rustic-meets-glam centerpieces for a Thanksgiving tablescape.

MATERIALS

pumpkin(s)
glitter
mod podge
tape (masking tape or painter’s tape)
paintbrush

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Be sure your pumpkins are clean and dry.
  2. Here the pumpkins are only covered in glitter halfway up, you can use masking tape to tape about halfway down the pumpkin and mod podge below the line of tape.  Or you could freehand it; it all looks great.
  3. Paint on the mod podge wherever you want the glitter, then sprinkle glitter generously over the mod podge.
  4. Shake off any extra glitter and touch up any spots you missed.
  5. Once your pumpkins have completely dried, it’s a good idea to gently paint on another coat of modge podge. This will dry clear and will help keep the glitter from getting on everything.
