Urban Decay’s NAKED Smoky Palette Is On Sale (As in, 50% Off Right Now)

Stop what you’re doing. Urban Decay’s NAKED Smoky Palette is on sale for 50% off right now.

Here’s the deal: The cult-favorite beauty brand just announced that their show-stopping $54 NAKED Smoky palette will be marked down to half-price, selling for just $27. But don’t delay, this beauty is going to sell out quick – and once they do, they’re history. As in, it looks like Urban Decay is retiring the NAKED Smoky Palette for good. From the brand,“these palettes won’t be around much longer, so get one while you still can.” You can pick one up for yourself (at 50% off!) in stores and at Sephora.com, Ulta.com, and Macys.com.

Thankfully the other five Naked palettes (the original Naked, Naked2, Naked3, Naked Heat, and Naked Ultimate Basics) are sticking around, so you can breathe a sigh of relief if you’re not able to snatch up the Urban Decay’s NAKED Smoky Palette.

If you’re not already familiar with Urban Decay’s NAKED palettes, or you’ve always wanted to try one, now’s the time. Ever since their debut more than seven years ago, NAKED palettes have become sort of a beauty rite of passage into the world of high-end makeup. I remember the first time my sister and I splurged on a Naked palette; life-changing I tell you. Now we’ve got my mom hooked. The colors in every NAKED palette are universally smooth, with a velvety texture, rich color, serious staying power and blendability, plus every case comes with an exclusive double-ended brush (with a Tapered Crease Brush on one end and a Smoky Smudger Brush on the other).

And why is this deal SO good? Well first of all, 50% OFF. Seriously, these palettes are never on sale. And the NAKED Smoky Palette in particular, is one of my favorites. Filled with 12 essential shades you need to create a sultry or neutral smoky eye – bronzes, grays, taupes, and blacks galore in matte, satin, and sparkly finishes – this is a pretty foolproof way to achieve any kind of smoky eye look. It also happens to be an Allure Best of Beauty award winner.

Snag your NAKED Smoky Palette at 50% off before they sell out!

Making the Transition From Summer to Fall: 5 Beauty Must Haves

I was compensated by Carmex® for this post. All opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting the sponsors who help to make Glitter, Inc. possible!

As the seasons ever-so-slowly start to make the transition from summer to fall, I try to mix in a few fall beauty must haves in my beauty bag to get my purse ready for the change in the weather. Moving from Miami two years ago, I never really thought much about dry skin and chapped lips, or about colors that work better in cooler temps, because really, in Miami, it’s summer 90% of the time. But with fall on the horizon here in North Carolina, I’ve learned that keeping my skin and lips hydrated is SO important. Plus, as September winds closer, it’s important to heal any damage those summer rays did to my skin too.

So I’m making a few switches in my beauty bag, and sharing just what I stock up on to make the summer to fall beauty transition smooth (nerdy pun totally intended!)

Making the Transition From Summer to Fall: 5 Beauty Must Haves by NC beauty blogger Glitter, Inc.

Making the Transition From Summer to Fall: 5 Beauty Must Haves

  1. Lip Balm. I cannot sing its praises enough. I’ve been using some combination of Carmex Comfort Care™ Lip Balm flavors, Carmex® Classic Lip Balm Stick, and Carmex Daily Care™ Moisturizing Lip Balms for as long as I can remember. I’ve got my husband hooked too. As in, any time one is missing, I know I’ll inevitably find it in hubby’s white coat or pants’ pocket. The minute a cool breeze blows past, my lips are instantly dry and chapped without Carmex, so I’m getting myself prepared.
  2. Hand cream. For whatever reason, one of the first things to dry out as the weather gets cooler are my hands. A good hand cream is essential. Keep a small tube of moisturizing hand cream in your purse and you’ll always have it on hand. Getting in the habit of slathering your hands (and face) with a bit of lotion with SPF each day will go a long way.
  3. A new shade of lipstick. I love a great nude lipstick that I can wear day-in and day-out. This nude (Yves Saint Laurent ‘Rouge Volupte Shine’ Oil-In-Stick Lipstick in 44 Lavalliere Nude), with a subtle shimmer to it, complements my summer skin, but was made for a fall palette as well. It’s also extra moisturizing, so it’s a win, win. I like to wear it on top of my classic lip balm to pile on the moisture.
  4. Sunglasses. Because even when you don’t feel like throwing on a face of makeup, a chic pair of sunglasses and a swatch of lip balm will have you looking presentable in an instant. And yes, sunglasses totally count as part of my beauty arsenal.
  5. Your favorite floral scent. I love keeping summer going as long as I can in subtle ways. (I say “subtle,” because let’s face it, I’m counting down the days until pumpkin patches, apple picking, and ALL things fall.) But subtle reminders of a sweet summer well spent; that’s perfection in my book. I can’t get enough of this scent – Florence – full of gardenia, jasmine, tuberose, and violet notes. I keep a rollerball in my beauty bag and roll a bit on my wrists and behind my ears and I feel like I smell like an Italian garden all day long.

What’s Old Is New Again: The Low Ponytail

Plenty of beauty trends come and go; and some, like blue eyeshadow, are best left forgotten if you ask me. But some manage to slip back into the beauty landscape, and this one in particular – the low ponytail – I’m not all that mad about. As a fan of no-fuss hair (read: I’m a tired mom), a relaxed ponytail that requires no hairspray, or any effort really at all, sounds ideal.

Tie or top your low ponytail with a scarf, bow, or barrette (totally channeling my mom during the early 90s right here), and out the door you go.

I also love this kind of ponytail (and I think you’ll love it too!) because a low ponytail is softer than a slicked back, more styled ponytail, and if you pull a few strands of hair out around your face, it can look totally intentional and beautiful with so little effort. Easy hairstyle game strong.

My Everyday Essential Beauty Must-Haves

This post was sponsored by Schick® Hydrosilk and Skintimate. Thank you for supporting the sponsors who help to make Glitter, Inc. possible!

It’s always fun to break down the beauty items you’re loving, what you’re trying out this season, and what you’ve come to adore, but I also really love seeing what other friends and bloggers consider essentials. You know; those everyday essential beauty must-haves. I want to know what’s in your essential beauty bag; the items you use day in and day out, and can’t live without.

My Everyday Essential Beauty Must-Haves; a.k.a., my Beauty Regimen

  • Schick Hydro Silk®. I always feel better when my legs are freshly shaved and smooth and I’ve been a fan of Schick® for years. I’ve been loving this New Schick Hydro Silk® Razor because it’s clinically proven to hydrate and moisturize for up to 2 hours after you shave. Here’s a little tip too: when you want that new razor, there’s always great deals at Kroger; click here to save!
  • Skintimate® Shave Gel. Over the years, I’ve tried to fall back on using plain old bar soap or shower gel to shave my legs and let me say, it is just not the same. Using Schick Hydro Silk® with Skintimate® Shave Gel is pretty monumental. Skintimate® Shave Gel just works. It smells great, goes on thick, and when you shave with it (rather than something dreaded, like bar soap), the result is healthy-looking, beautiful, silky smooth legs.
  • A moisturizer with SPF in it. I am crazy for body lotion and hand cream; having SPF in it makes it a standout for me. I’m pretty much always covered in lotion. (Thanks, Grandma!)
  • Foundation. This one’s pretty non-negotiable.
  • Under-eye concealer. This is a newer, but much-needed addition to the beauty lineup, and now that I’m onboard, I’m a total fan. Even just a bit of under-eye concealer and powder and I’m presentable-ish in a pinch.
  • Matte powder (and usually a quick swipe of blush because I am paler than pale).
  • Mascara, forever and always.
  • Nail polish. What can I say, I love having my nails painted. After getting my legs ready, I love to add a little more shine with a quick at-home mini manicure and pedicure!
  • A soft-finish hairspray; for even the worst hair days.

I’ll also admit that I’m a total nail polish junkie. I feel “naked” without at least some polish on my nails. My staple nail polish colors: black, red, and any shade of nude.

Silky smooth legs, freshly painted nails, and a good hair day; I’m feeling pretty unstoppable.

The 3 Best Nail Polish Top Coats to Make Your Manicure LAST

If you’ve followed along here on the blog or social media over the years (can you believe this blog is more than 7 years old!?), you’ll know that I am a devout black nail polish lover. By the way, I think I make a pretty strong case for black nail polish as a perfect neutral here. But here’s the hitch: black nail polish, like just about every other nail polish on the planet, chips. The difference? When black nail polish chips, it’s obvious. And then suddenly you’re reliving the grunge days, and unsuspectingly bringing back a goth trend that was meant to stay firmly in the 90s. Chipped black nails are not a good look. Honestly, all chipped nail polish makes me cringe.

To combat the dreaded chipped nail, I’ve tested out at least ten different base and top coats that claim to extend the life of a manicure, and make a colored coat of nail polish last. But here’s the thing, not all protective top coats and base coats are made equal. For years, I tried the drugstore brands that guaranteed 10-day manicures and stronger nails. They were OK. But none of them really prevent chipping beyond the standard first few days.

And while gel manicures in a salon really do last, the UV rays make me a bit nervous, and seriously, who has time to get gel manicures these days?

So I stepped up my game, determined to find a clear coat nail polish that would help my at-home manicures last. Especially now that I’m a mom, I just don’t have the time to get constant manicures. Swallow sadness. I paint my own nails at home pretty regularly. I love the look of polish on my nails. But like I said before, I’m not a fan of the chipped nail polish look, and I definitely do not have the time to constantly repaint my nails each week. So research I did.

All of the top coats I’ve found, unlike gel manicures, are easy to remove with any polish remover and don’t require soaking or scraping nails to remove. They also WORK.

Here are the results …

Drumroll, please …

3 Nail Polish Top Coats to Make Your Manicure LAST:

| 1 | CND Vinylux Top Coat

This was actually the first top coat that I tried that really did what it said it was going to do. Although CND Vinylux Top Coat is marketed as a polish to use in conjunction with CND Vinylux Weekly Polish, don’t be afraid to use your own color and just top with CND Vinylux Top Coat. After using the color and top coat duo for a few weeks, and loving the lasting results, I decided to go rogue and try the top coat with one of my standard Essie polishes. It worked!

According to CND, exposure to natural light secures the patent-pending technology, creating an enduring, long-lasting polish. My manicures, with the top coat, lasted at least a week. It also dries really quickly; bonus!

You can find it at Ulta, Walmart, or on Amazon.

| 2 | Zoya Armor Topcoat

I’m a big fan of Zoya’s nail polish because they are all Big 10 Free and toxin-free. Especially now that I’m pregnant, its become my go-to nail polish. So when I found out Zoya had a top coat that guaranteed a lasting manicure, and then I read the hundreds of glowing reviews about the product, I knew I had to try it. Zoya Armor Topcoat adds a protective, ultra-glossy, flexible shine to nail color and prevent exposure to yellowing UV rays.

Zoya Armor – dubbed by the brand as “the world’s strongest and most flexible top coat for protecting natural nails and extending the wear and shine of nail polish” – lives up to the hype. The flexible topcoat provides a chip-free coating to defend nail color against wear and tear, and seems to really help in strengthening my nails. My manicures also last at least a week with this top coat on.

You can find it on Amazon.

| 3 | Deborah Lippmann Gel Lab Pro Nail Base Coat and Top Coat Set

The only option of the bunch that involves two steps to lasting nails – a base coat and top coat – this luxe nail polish set is totally impressive. Of my favorites, the end result with this one does look most like a professional gel manicure. From the brand, “Give any manicure high shine, extended wear and a cushiony, plumped look without UV lamps, tools or nail damage. ”

Deborah Lippmann nail polishes also use a five-free formulation; i.e., no parabens, sulfates, toluene, formaldehyde, or phthalates.

Although adding a second step – third if you count the color nail polish layer – the set will give you that lasting manicure and your nails will look like a million bucks. The top coat dries really fast as well. The set is pricier than the others though, and both CND Vinylux Top Coat and Zoya Armor Topcoat totally do the trick, so, there’s that.

You can find it at Nordstrom, Sephora, and Revolve.
