How to Throw a Tea Party Baby Shower in 6 Easy Steps

This post has been sponsored by Pampers. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting the sponsors who help to make Glitter, Inc. possible!

With baby number two on the way, lately, I can’t help but dream up baby showers and nursery layouts. So, to satisfy my love for parties, I decided to throw a little tea party baby shower as inspiration! I’m also showing you just how to create your own baby shower in 6 easy steps, with the help of some favorite tried-and-true baby shower games and traditions and one towering DIY Diaper “Cupcake” Cake Tower.

I’ve always loved a great tea party – though I’ve never actually thrown one for the blog. This felt like the perfect opportunity! I love that a tea party feels feminine, vintage, and truly like a special and unique party. I mean, it’s not every day you get invited to a tea party!

Unless of course, you have a three-year-old. We have a lot of tea parties.

Let’s jump right in!

How to Throw a Tea Party Baby Shower in 6 Easy Steps:

| 1 | Create a statement piece.

For Scarlett’s baby shower a few years back, one of our family friends made me the most amazing towering diaper cake, and I’ve been dreaming of ways to create something similar. This tea party baby shower gave me the perfect inspiration. I wanted to take the diaper cake trend in a slightly different direction, and thus, the Pampers diaper cupcake tower was born.

How to Make a DIY Diaper “Cupcake” Cake:

To make your diaper “cupcakes” all you have to do is fold the diapers in half, vertically, and then tightly roll into a “cupcake.” Secure your “cupcake” with a clear elastic hair tie.

I filled a tiered cupcake stand and paper cupcake liners to truly look like a tower of cupcakes, and then decorated the whole thing with flowers to fit in with our tea party baby shower theme.

Side note: I’m about six-and-a-half months pregnant with baby number two (our announcement, how I told my husband we were pregnant again, and gender reveal), and as I was opening the Pampers Swaddlers box and putting together the diaper cupcake tower, I couldn’t help but get all misty-eyed. I forgot how tiny newborn and size 1 diapers are (and Scarlett actually wore preemie for the first month or so!) Those itty bitty diapers, their sweet baby smell, just rolling the same tiny diapers Scarlett once wore, turned me into a weepy mess. Time flies when you’re having fun!

| 2 | Include details that really get everyone in the spirit.

If you’re throwing a tea party or bohemian baby shower, have everyone wear or provide flower crowns or floppy hats. Everyone will get a kick out of the added flair, but sticking to something like a hat or floral crown keeps it from feeling like guests have to go to all the trouble of “dressing up.” Plus, you’ll get so many great pictures when guests are having fun sporting their girly props.

| 3 | Games are always popular at baby showers, but keep them simple and enjoyable for your guests.

A few favorite baby shower games:

Hold a diaper raffle. Instead of buying tickets, tell guests they can enter the raffle by bringing a pack of diapers. (Be sure to mention the diaper raffle on the invitation so that everyone knows to bring diapers.) For every guest that brings a box of diapers, throw their name into a hat, and towards the end of the shower, pull one or two names out of the hat and announce them the winner(s). By the way, a gift card is always a great prize/motivator! And the very best part about a diaper raffle: new mom and babe get a whole stockpile of diapers for those first few months.

A diaper bag full of baby items. Put at least ten popular/useful baby items inside a diaper bag; i.e., a bib, bottle, teething ring, rattle, and diaper. Give each guest a pen and paper before passing the diaper bag around. Without looking, each person should stick a hand inside the bag and identify as many items as possible. Give each guest no more than two minutes to feel around and make their guesses before passing the diaper bag to the next person. Once everyone has had a turn, find out who had the most correct answers. The winner gets a prize and the mom-to-be gets the diaper bag filled with baby essentials!

“My water broke” ice cubes. The night before the shower, make these adorable baby ice cubes. Then, at the start of the shower, everyone puts one of the baby-filled ice cubes in their drink. Whoever’s melts first, yells, “My water broke!” and that person is crowned the winner! This simple and quick game always brings out the laughs.

| 4 | Plan a menu that’s unique and fun.

Tea sandwiches and plenty of dessert are the way to go for a tea party shower. You could even have a signature soup or salad to pair with the finger foods.

Lifestyle blogger Lexi of Glitter, Inc. shares how to throw a tea party baby shower in 6 easy steps; plus a DIY diaper

| 5 | Carry the details throughout the party.

Here, real and fabric roses adorned the diaper cupcake “cake,” the tea cups, the napkin rings, rose petals were even scattered across the tables.

| 6 | If you decide to have a party favor, give guests something they’ll love and remember.

When my mom planned my baby shower for Scarlett, she and I spent months, scouring yard sales and thrift shops for old tea cups and saucers. If you really keep your eyes peeled, and you’re a fan of thrifting, you can find vintage tea cups for as little as twenty cents a piece. Guests were thrilled to take home such a memorable keepsake, and so many of them still use their teacups to this day.

Dreamy West Virginia Wedding at an Old Glass Factory

Beautiful parties and weddings come in all shapes and sizes – some are small, and some are lavish, and plenty are somewhere in between; and sometimes, it’s the simple events, pulled together with love, that truly shine. When wedding photographer, Britani Edwards shared this stunning West Virginia wedding, I knew I had to feature it. Held at an old glass factory behind a private residence, and created as a Plan B, this special wedding is nothing short of dreamy.

From Britani, “This couple reached out to me with a heart touching story and I couldn’t help but fall in love … The couple, high school sweethearts, had been planning a large luxurious wedding. Circumstances arose and their dream of a large wedding was pushed aside. We were able to put together this wedding for this couple by bringing local vendors together and creating a wedding of their dreams, styled to a T!”

Each vendor brought in their own unique spin to the ethereal navy and blush styled wedding shoot, from the table linens, to the invitation suite, to the jaw-dropping dessert spread complete with towering naked cake.

“The bride and groom were beyond grateful to all those involved! The love that was shared throughout the day was so touching and I think all of us small business owners walked away with memories of why we even started our wedding businesses in the first place.”

Goat Cheese Macaroni and Cheese with Peas

My love for pasta is pretty much never-ending, and mac ‘n cheese, well that’s just heaven in a casserole dish if you ask me. Cheese and pasta; what’s not to love?

This updated version of the classic comfort food dish – goat cheese macaroni and cheese with peas – is deliciously creamy and cheesy, a touch decadent, with a perfect brightness added by the peas. Goat cheese gives the traditional comfort food that I always love a fresh, slightly tangy taste that is perfect for the summer months.

The dish is also surprisingly simple to make, once you get the hang of making a quick roux for your macaroni and cheese base. (Fun fact: melted butter, plus whisked in flour, and you’ve got yourself a roux! You can read more about mastering the art of a classic macaroni and cheese here, with one of my all-time favorite mac ‘n cheese recipes.)

Our brilliant food contributor, Hope, whipped up this lip-smacking mac ‘n cheese and the result is AMAZING.

Say hello to your new favorite pasta dish: goat cheese mac and cheese.

Goat Cheese Macaroni and Cheese with Peas

Cook

Total

This recipe for goat cheese macaroni and cheese is deliciously creamy and cheesy, with a just right tangy spin on the classic brought to the dish by the goat cheese, a touch decadent (because, mac 'n cheese!), with a perfect brightness added by the peas.

Goat Cheese Macaroni and Cheese with Peas is a surprisingly simple-to-make dinner or side dish and is totally YUM.

Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups macaroni pasta (or shells)
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 6 tablespoons flour
  • 2 cups of 2% milk
  • 1 cup skim milk
  • 11 ounces goat cheese
  • 4.5 ounces sharp white cheddar
  • ¼ - ½ teaspoon pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup peas (fresh or frozen)

Instructions

  1. Bring a pot of water to a boil and cook the pasta according to the directions, subtracting a minute of cook time (they will cook more later). Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
  2. Heat a large saucepan over medium heat and add butter. Once the butter is sizzling, whisk in the flour. Stir and cook for 2 to 3 minutes, until the mixture is thick and slightly golden. Very slowly add the milks by streaming them down the side of the pot little by little, whisking the whole time. Continue stirring and cook for another 5 to 6 minutes until slightly thickened.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and stir in half of the goat cheese. Once the first half of the goat cheese is fully incorporated, add the second half and stir until it melts. Each addition will take about 5 minutes. Add the cheddar cheese and stir until all of the cheese is melted. Mix in the pepper and salt.
  4. Stir in the pasta and mix until all of the noodles are coated in cheese sauce. Add the peas and stir to distribute evenly.
  5. Spread the mac and cheese into an oven-safe casserole dish and bake for about 25 minutes. Serve right away.

NOTE: If you love a cheesy mac, you can also top with more cheddar before putting in the oven. The cheese topping will be golden brown and bubbly.

The San Diego mom’s style is brimming with cool, California style, and plenty of soft rustic home decor touches. Her “1970’s fixer” is the stuff vacation house dreams are made of.

It’s amazing what bringing in a few live green plants, some brighter pillows, and summery accents can do. By the way, crushing on Michelle’s Summer pillows? I shared 18 neutral throw pillows a few weeks back, and I think you’re going to love them!

Michelle also regularly brings in fresh clippings from her yard. Wouldn’t it be nice to have olive branches and eucalyptus right in your own backyard? Meanwhile, I’ll be trolling Trader Joe’s for ALL of the greenery.

My Everyday Essential Beauty Must-Haves

This post was sponsored by Schick® Hydrosilk and Skintimate. Thank you for supporting the sponsors who help to make Glitter, Inc. possible!

It’s always fun to break down the beauty items you’re loving, what you’re trying out this season, and what you’ve come to adore, but I also really love seeing what other friends and bloggers consider essentials. You know; those everyday essential beauty must-haves. I want to know what’s in your essential beauty bag; the items you use day in and day out, and can’t live without.

My Everyday Essential Beauty Must-Haves; a.k.a., my Beauty Regimen

  • Schick Hydro Silk®. I always feel better when my legs are freshly shaved and smooth and I’ve been a fan of Schick® for years. I’ve been loving this New Schick Hydro Silk® Razor because it’s clinically proven to hydrate and moisturize for up to 2 hours after you shave. Here’s a little tip too: when you want that new razor, there’s always great deals at Kroger; click here to save!
  • Skintimate® Shave Gel. Over the years, I’ve tried to fall back on using plain old bar soap or shower gel to shave my legs and let me say, it is just not the same. Using Schick Hydro Silk® with Skintimate® Shave Gel is pretty monumental. Skintimate® Shave Gel just works. It smells great, goes on thick, and when you shave with it (rather than something dreaded, like bar soap), the result is healthy-looking, beautiful, silky smooth legs.
  • A moisturizer with SPF in it. I am crazy for body lotion and hand cream; having SPF in it makes it a standout for me. I’m pretty much always covered in lotion. (Thanks, Grandma!)
  • Foundation. This one’s pretty non-negotiable.
  • Under-eye concealer. This is a newer, but much-needed addition to the beauty lineup, and now that I’m onboard, I’m a total fan. Even just a bit of under-eye concealer and powder and I’m presentable-ish in a pinch.
  • Matte powder (and usually a quick swipe of blush because I am paler than pale).
  • Mascara, forever and always.
  • Nail polish. What can I say, I love having my nails painted. After getting my legs ready, I love to add a little more shine with a quick at-home mini manicure and pedicure!
  • A soft-finish hairspray; for even the worst hair days.

I’ll also admit that I’m a total nail polish junkie. I feel “naked” without at least some polish on my nails. My staple nail polish colors: black, red, and any shade of nude.

Silky smooth legs, freshly painted nails, and a good hair day; I’m feeling pretty unstoppable.
