5 Tips + Tricks for Staying Healthy This Season

I’ve partnered with Renew Life Probiotics to create this post! Enjoy!

Is anyone else struggling to keep up with this crazy weather? One day in North Carolina it’s a balmy 80 out and the next day it’s 30 degrees and we wake up to a lawn covered in frost. And rumor has it, New England is just blanketed in snow. Brutal. Aside from the weather, I have a hubby who works at a hospital, and a toddler in her first year at preschool, a.k.a., we’re constantly trying to keep healthy.

This year, I’ve really had to up our family’s game (including my own*) on staying well, so I thought I’d share our 5 tricks for staying healthy this season (and every season for that matter!)

| 1. Get some sleep.

I talk about this here (because aren’t we all never really getting enough sleep?) But sleep is vital, guys. Your body desperately needs that recharge, and if you’re not getting enough sleep, odds are, your tolerance is down and you’ll be feeling it in no time. Even if you’re running on empty mid-day, and you can sneak in a catnap, do that. It’s not a substitution for a good night’s sleep, but it’s something.

I think sometimes as a mom, a business woman, a generally busy human, we forget to prioritize ourselves. But how can you take care of someone or something else, if you’re not taking care of YOU first?

You’ve got to love yourself, prioritize you, and take care of the whole you, if you expect to conquer the world, or at the very least, your enormous “to do” list.

| 2. Give probiotics a try.

You’ve probably heard of them by now, and that’s because they do wonders for your body. Basically, probiotics are live bacteria and yeasts that are good for your health (a.k.a., “good” bacteria), especially your digestive system, and help to create a healthy gut. They also provide immune system support. Your stomach is considered the core of your body’s overall health and well-being and can affect your entire body, including immunity and digestion.

I’m a big fan of Renew Life Ultimate Flora Probiotics because they’re easy to take. Basically, I try taking them like I would a multi-vitamin. You can visit Renewlife.com for more information.

| 3. Drink more water.

You may have to remind yourself on the daily to pick up that glass of water, but it’s worth it. Adequate hydration plays a huge role in so many aspects of your health, including kidney health, clear skin, energized muscles, normal bowel function, the list goes on and on.

| 4. Wash your hands often.

It may seem small, but handwashing is one of the best ways to protect yourself and your family from getting sick. At the hospital, doctors and nurses are trained to wash their hands constantly and before every interaction with a patient. Because hubby is so programmed to wash his hands as part of his job, that idea has spilled over into our own home, and we try hard to keep our hands clean and to teach Scarlett to do the same. She actually loves washing her hands now, and even has a song for it. It’s basically the cutest.

When we’re on the go, I’ll use hand sanitizer or baby wipes to keep our hands relatively clean.

| 5. Prioritize yourself.

Even if it’s just in small doses, take care of you. Whether that’s committing to exercise a few times each week (something I’m always trying to stay on track with), getting out of the house and going for a walk, practicing meditation, reading a book, shutting off your computer and phone by 8pm each night, whatever it is that gives your body and mind a break, do that.
