DIY Farmhouse New Year’s Eve Wood Sign

Okay, okay, remember that time I said I wasn’t going to post for a week? Umm, yesterday. You know, for the sake of the holidays and giving myself a break and all of that jazz. Yeah well, I lied. I got too excited and totally forgot about this adorable DIY farmhouse New Year’s Eve wood sign. You might have seen it in the post a few weeks back all about how to transition your décor from the holidays to New Year’s Eve. This farmhouse sign is a fun and fast DIY … just like this fun and fast post. So I’m sharing how to make this adorable DIY farmhouse New Year’s Eve wood sign that you can keep on your mantle or hang in your gallery wall all year long.

Happy making! (And I hope you all are having a WONDERFUL holiday break.)

DIY FARMHOUSE NEW YEAR’S EVE WOOD SIGN

What You’ll Need

Wood Board
Numbers
Gold Spray Paint
Wood Glue or a Hot Glue Gun
Twine
Hammer
4 Nails

How To

Any wood board will do! I had held onto this white wood board and I kept trying to come up with a way to use it. This DIY turned out to be the perfect project. (Michaels actually has a great selection of hanging wood boards and smaller wood-framed chalkboards and you can also ask for a piece of wood cut at your local home improvement store.)

I found wood numbers at our local craft store, but house numbers from your local home improvement store will work well too. Spray-painted those gold and allow to dry completely.

Knot four pieces of twine, creating a loop. Glue a twine knot to the back of each number.

Hammer four nails into the front of your board, each equal distance apart.

Once the glue has dried, hang your 2-0-1-7 numbers onto your board.

Voilà! The cutest DIY farmhouse sign around.

The best part about this simple DIY is that you can easily buy a new number to change up the year. (I bought a number “8” for next year as well.)

Be sure to allow your glue to dry completely on the back of your numbers before hanging on your nails.

Happy New Year! (+ a Holiday Card for the Procrastinators)

I just wanted to pop in to wish you all the happiest of holidays and a wonderful new year! For the first time in seven years of blogging, I’m slowing down the blog for the Holidays. Typically, I stress and churn out content straight through the holidays and new year, but this year, I’ve officially decided to give myself a bit of a holiday. Scarlett is LOVING the holiday season, and it’s so nice to spend time with our family for the festivities. You can expect amazing new content in the new year – which is just days away. Time flies!

It’s been an incredible year of blogging. I can’t thank you all enough for helping me to turn this little blog of mine into a full-time business. I couldn’t be more proud, or more thankful. I’ll be checking in here and there on the blog, and you can definitely follow along on social media; I’ll be sharing what we’re up to throughout the holiday week over on instagramfacebooktwitter, and snapchat → glitterinclexi (lots of fun behind-the-scenes there). Follow along!

Now let’s talk about family holiday cards for the procrastinators:

I can’t remember a year since being married and on our own that I haven’t sent a New Year’s card, rather than a holiday card. Between the huge holiday “to do” list I have each year, wrapping up work, getting ready for vacation, and in the last few years, getting Scarlett ready for the holidays, our family holiday cards tend to get forgotten. Until the last-minute that is, when I panic, and realize I haven’t even ORDERED our family’s holiday cards. Every. Single. Year. Guys, I am a procrastinator when it comes to our poor holiday cards.

But in swoops Minted and they go and save the day. Their card selection is amazing, they have plenty of New Year’s cards for the procrastinators, and right now, they’re offering rush service and free rush shipping. And in case that’s not awesome enough, after years of testing out our New Year’s cards, I have to say, I really like sending and receiving New Year’s cards. We get so many holiday cards, it’s nice to separate ours from the pack. And Minted offers these adorable messages on the back of their cards, including a Season in Review, which we love doing, because we can write a little yearly wrap-up and share with our friends and family what’s been going on in our lives. Everyone seems to love that touch, especially now that we’ve moved to North Carolina.

So whether you’re in panic mode trying to get those holiday and New Year’s cards out, or you’re looking to update the artwork in your home (oh yeah, Minted has GORGEOUS framed art work and prints!), Minted is our go-to.

Big thanks to Merritt Chesson for these incredible family photos! Trying to get all three of us to smile in unison, and keeping a cold toddler happy in a field – where all she wants to do is run free and collect sticks – is near impossible – but she managed to take gorgeous photos for us, and I can’t wait to frame a few of these for our someday gallery wall.

Minted provided our holiday cards this year in exchange for this post. Thank you so much for supporting the sponsors who help to make Glitter, Inc. possible.

It’s the season of holiday parties – from office parties, to dinner parties, ugly sweater parties, potlucks, Hanukkah parties, Christmas brunch, New Year’s Eve – the list goes on and on. We’ve already been to hubby’s annual work party, but we still have two Hanukkah parties, a birthday party, and two brunches – one on Christmas morning, so I’m doing a little last-minute shopping. Thankfully, some of my favorite stores are offering two- and three-day shipping: thank you, Shopbop and Bloomingdales!

Fishnets Are Back: Here are 18 Chic Ways to Wear Them

Fishnets have always symbolized taking a bit of a fashion risk. If you ask your mom or grandma about fishnets, you’ll probably get a flustered or embarrassed response. Fishnets have always been considered somewhat sexually suggestive, something worn behind closed doors, and in later years, specifically, the 90s, fishnets became punk-meets-goth, and still, quite overt. But isn’t that how fashion works? It takes a risky fashion move and morphs it into a trend?

Just look around, scroll through Instagram, peek at the pictures from fashion weeks around the world, and you’ll see the resounding trend. Fishnets are back, and they’re everywhere. Whether it’s a pair of fishnet tights paired with a skirt or worn under jeans (Oh yeah, you read that right! Just scroll down to see the trend in action and how to wear them); or delicate fishnet ankle socks worn with sandals or heels, the style is gaining traction. Just pulling this post together, I totally talked myself into a pair of adorable fishnet socks. #bloghazard

And if you’re hunting for a new pair, the consensus seems to be that everyone’s favorite fishnet tights are from ASOS, and I’m partial to these large hole fishnet tights, though I love the selection at Nordstrom too, and here are a few adorable pairs of fishnet socks in case you’re really feeling inspired.

Little Love Notes

A few little love notes to the things I loved most this week, including these peppermint pecan snowball cookies.

Happy Friday! It’s the end of the week, which means we’re just a little bit closer to the holidays (and our family vacation!) This weekend will be a blur of work, DIY projects, present-wrapping, and a playdate on Sunday to take advantage of the one warmer day this week. It’s 22° right now. Whaaaaaa? Hubby is working straight through the weekend, so it’s just us girls. I’ll be sharing what we’re up to throughout the weekend over on instagramfacebooktwitter, and snapchat → glitterinclexi (lots of fun behind-the-scenes there). Follow along!

How about you? Any exciting weekend plans?

With that, a few little love notes …

Dear party-throwers, brush up on Darcy Miller’s five non-negotiables for successful parties.

Dear holiday night off, rumor has it, the new film, Manchester By the Sea is amazing. (Both Cup of Jo and my barre instructor say so!)

Dear coffee fanatics, have you heard of an Aeropress coffee maker, $30, which combines the technology of a French Press and a pour-over? Sounds way too cool. “All my coffee-loving friends pack an AeroPress when they hit the road,” says food writer Ruth Reichl. “It is, they assure me, the only way to be sure of getting a decent cup of coffee.”

Dear fun facts, turns out, blue is the most popular color on the internet.

Dear fellow book nerds, you have to check out this wine bottle with a twist. I kind of love it.

Dear cooking know-how, this handy guide tells you when you should cook with fancy versus cheap salt.

Dear lovely tops with ruffle hems, I can’t stop crushing: Exhibit A and Exhibit B.

Dear winter musts, how to all-natural make stovetop potpourri.

Dear weekend baking, these peppermint pecan snowball cookies are adorably and oh so festive.

Get the origins of these sweet little love notes, here, and catch up on love notes of the past.

Life Lately

Checking in with a little update on life lately! I’m still in awe of how quickly this year has flown by. There are just two weeks left of December, and our holiday to-do list is a mile long. Anyone else panicking over all of the gift shopping to do? Thankfully, I tackled most of the gifts on the agenda earlier this week, but I’m still missing a few essentials. I’m thinking Amazon Prime will be my holiday BFF. And I haven’t even ORDERED our holiday cards yet. Happy New Year’s, everyone … because those are the cards you’re getting. Whoops! (Though I promise an awesome post all about last-minute holiday cards, and giveaways for my fellow procrastinators, is coming soon.)

But I’m loving the holiday season too. I can’t stop making treats (our favorite sugar cookies for decorating, a s’mores graham house, candied cinnamon-roasted almondsOREO cookie balls, the easiest donuts, frosted chewy gingerbread cookies, sugared cranberries, marbled peppermint bark, the list goes on and on.)

It’s also predicted to snow here in North Carolina early next week and I can’t say that I’m not just a little bit giddy. This Florida girl is still totally enamored by snow … even if it’s usually just a thin layer of frost. Scarlett and I will have our noses pressed to the window until Tuesday if you need us. Meanwhile, she’s totally digging all of the leaves.

We took these pictures at Duke Gardens with our friends a few weekends back – one of the few days hubby has had off this month. He’s been on a working spree, but thankfully, he gets a decent vacation and we’re taking full advantage; headed to the mountains next week. SO excited.
