Farmhouse Style Winter Wonderland Holiday Party

Thank you to Stacy’s Pita Chips for sponsoring this post and helping me bring this party to life. All thoughts and opinions are my own. We truly appreciate you supporting the sponsors who help make Glitter, Inc. possible!

I’m a huge fan of the Holidays. I think it has to do with the fact that I love throwing parties, and from October through the new year, I get to throw plenty. This holiday season, I really wanted to create a holiday dinner party that felt easy and fun. I’ve been crushing pretty hard on farmhouse style décor, so I knew that I wanted to capture that and bring it to life in a merry little mingle dinner party. My take on the trend: a farmhouse style winter wonderland holiday party.

I wanted the feel to be lighthearted, casual and relaxed. I made an easy southern style charcuterie board with cheese, nuts, olives and pickled beets, plus plenty of fun sips and snacks like Stacy’s Pita Chips, Nut Harvest Dark Choc Almond Toffee Bites, Indulgences by Smartfood Popcorn in Raspberry & Dark Chocolate, Lay’s Wavy Dipped in Dark Chocolate, Pure Leaf Unsweetened tea, Bud Light, and Stella Artois with sugared cranberries.

The cheese board is such a fun spot to gather a crowd, and really is the perfect party uniter. You’d be amazed at how simple it is to throw a charcuterie together. Choose cheeses and/or meats, nuts, candied nuts, fresh fruit and dried fruit, olives, etc., and arrange everything in little handfuls. Have things like crusty bread or Stacy’s pita chips so your guests can take slices and scoops of the cheese.

Tell me that’s not making you hungry?

I laid down my favorite macrame table runner along the center of the table and then just stuffed fresh eucalyptus (you can buy it in inexpensive bunches at your local grocery store or Trader Joe’s), plus some leftover silver garland I had from last year’s holiday party, and a few loose pinecones here and there. Then I set out a few candles, and voila: a simple, but beautiful table centerpiece.

As for snacks, there were plenty.

I am officially a raspberry and dark chocolate popcorn convert and both the popcorn and dark chocolate covered wavy Lay’s chips were crowd favorites.

Mason jars give everything that farmhouse feel, don’t ya think?

I love setting a table, but I also like to keep things simple. No confusing fork placement in this house!

I use this gold flatware for everything, these are just our everyday white dishes that work for basically any occasion, we used mason quilted jelly jars as glasses, and I found these great farmhouse style napkins on Amazon! We also set up this galvanized napkin holder at the bar where all the snacks were. Snacking is a messy business.

The feed sack style stripe on the napkins makes me so happy.

I think I’m in love with sugared cranberries. I want to sprinkle them on everything.

When in doubt, decorate with eucalyptus and pinecones. It feels organic and warm, and will last through the holidays. (Eucalyptus actually dries really well.)

How to Make Hanukkah OREO Cookie Balls

Thank you to OREO for sponsoring this post. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you so much for supporting the sponsors that make Glitter, Inc. possible!

It’s no secret that I can’t stop baking. And during the holiday season, my baking habit kicks into overdrive. This year, Scarlett is starting to show even more of an interest in what’s going on in the kitchen, and I couldn’t be more excited to get her involved in the process. My mom always had us in our highchairs, even as babies, playing with measuring cups and scoops of cereal, so I’ve done the same with our little girl.

OREO Cookie Balls are the perfect family-friendly recipe. Plus, when we were at Walmart the other day, and I spotted the OREO Cookies, I knew we had to make something. OREO Cookie Balls are incredibly simple to make, and your kids can help every step of the way. Scarlett had a blast helping me “smash” the cookies in a zip-top bag (easily, her favorite part), we mixed the ingredients together, and then she helped me to put our Ḥanukkah (a.k.a., Chanukah) sprinkles on top of our chocolate-coated OREO Cookie Balls.

If you’re an OREO cookie lover (and I mean, who isn’t?), these Ḥanukkah OREO Cookie Balls are most definitely for you.

How to Make OREO Cookie Balls

INGREDIENTS

1 pkg. (8 oz.) brick cream cheese, softened
42 OREO Cookies, finely crushed (about 3-1/2 cups), divided
1 pkg. (12 oz.) Wilton brand melting chocolate*, melted
Sprinkles

How to Make Hanukkah OREO Cookie Balls. Click through for the easy Holiday recipe. | glitterinc.com | @glitterinc

DIRECTIONS

  1. Mix cream cheese and cookie crumbs until blended.
  2. Put your chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and melt chocolate in the microwave by cooking about 15 seconds at a time, removing from microwave, stirring, and microwaving another 15 seconds. Repeat this until your chocolate is completely melted and smooth. (You can also melt your chocolate in a pot on the stove, but we’re all about simplicity here.)
  3. Shape mixture into 48 (1-inch) balls. Freeze 10 min. Dip balls in melted chocolate; place in single layer in shallow waxed paper-lined pan. While the melted chocolate is still soft, sprinkle with your favorite holiday sprinkles.
  4. Refrigerate 1 hour or until firm. Keep refrigerated until ready to serve.

*You can also use semi-sweet or milk chocolate baking chocolate if you prefer a different kind of chocolate over white chocolate.

Recipe adapted via Snack Works

TIP: To easily coat your OREO cookie balls with the melted chocolate, add your cold cookie balls, one at a time, to the bowl of melted chocolate. Use 2 forks to roll the cookie balls in chocolate until evenly coated. Remove balls with forks, letting excess chocolate drip back into the bowl and place the coated balls onto your prepared pan. Don’t forget to refrigerate the balls until firm.

According to my hubby, the very best way to eat these Ḥanukkah OREO cookie balls is with an ice cold glass of milk. And trust me, my hubby knows snacks. Have one Oreo Cookie Ball with a glass of milk for the yummiest snack.

These are also such a simple gift for the holidays or dessert to bring to a holiday party. They’re always a fan favorite and they really are so simple to make.

How to Transition Your Décor From the Holidays to New Year’s Eve

I was paid by Lowe’s as a part of this campaign. Thank you so much for supporting the sponsors that make Glitter, Inc. possible!

We decorated our living room for the holidays, and I am so excited to share it with you!

Since moving into our new house, and after a bit of debate, painting our brick fireplace white, the fireplace and mantle has become the focal point of our living room. Because our living room is so white, I wanted to bring in a bit of warmth, with a clean, rustic feel for the holiday season.

There is a huge variety of  holiday décor available at Lowe’s, and I honestly had the hardest time narrowing down my picks. The holiday living candles and ornaments, the holiday signs, the stockings, even the occasion wrapping paper was gorgeous.

I decided to bring in elements from nature to really bring the look to life. Foraging for greenery was so much fun with Scarlett, though she mostly handed me dirt and twigs. I love involving her in all of the fun holiday traditions, including the decorating itself, even at an early age.

Take a look at how we decorated our living room and how we transitioned the décor for the holiday season, and be sure to let me know what you think in the comments and on social media (@glitterinclexi)!

How to Transition Your Décor From the Holidays to New Year’s Eve:

As for our living room décor, the challenge was finding and using pieces to create a holiday look that could work in two ways: one for the holidays and one for the New Year. The beauty of so many of the holiday décor products at Lowe’s was that they really could be pulled into both holiday and new year displays; which is great, because really, who wants to have to buy a whole new set of décor for a holidays just days apart? I chose a mostly neutral palette with metallics sprinkled in (gold, silver, and copper) … yep, I’m a total creature of habit; a.k.a., glitter is my fave.

Hubby found these little pinecones that look like rosebuds and as you may have caught on Snapchat → glitterinclexi or my Instagram Story, I went spray paint crazy and covered them in gold spray paint. They were the perfect touch.

The holiday living candles and candle holders, votives, snowflake Christmas stockings, and holiday living ball ornaments were all gorgeous find from Lowe’s.

We set up a little hot chocolate station, because no holiday gathering is complete without hot chocolate. (You can see how we upgrade instant hot cocoa here.)

I will forever be a fan of the giant campfire marshmallows.

We also set up a cozy spot to lounge.

And of course, presents. I snagged two rolls of that gold glitter occasion wrapping paper because I loved it so much.

Isn’t that little porcupine ornament the cutest?

To transition the space for New Year’s Eve, we took down some of the more traditionally “holiday” elements like the stockings and presents, and added a few fun celebratory New Year’s Eve pieces, like a clock, disco balls, stars, and a New Year sign.

First up was a fun and fast DIY.

Using numbers from either a craft store or house numbers from Lowe’s, spray-paint those gold, glue a twine knot to the back of each number, hammer four nails into the front of your board, and once the glue is dry, hang your 2-0-1-7 numbers onto your board. The best part about this simple DIY is that you can easily buy a new number to change up the year. (I bought a number “8” for next year as well.)

How to Transition Your Décor From the Holidays to New Years Eve. Click through for the festive details. | glitterinc.com | @glitterinc

How cute is that?

Of course, in true New Year’s fashion, there had to be stars. These paper door hanger stars from Lowe’s were one of my favorite purchases and I’m already imagining other ways to use them. I just replaced my stockings with the stars on the fireplace mantle stocking hooks.

The more sparkles and disco balls, the better.

We replaced the hot chocolate setup with a champagne station to toast the new year.

The “Cheers” sign, gold tray, and coasters were all from Lowe’s.

I’m not sure which setup I adore more. I love that the New Year’s space had such a glamorous twist, while still feeling cozy and warm, but when I first decorated for the holidays it really felt like THE HOLIDAYS, and I love that excitement leading up to all of the festivities.

Black Friday + Cyber Monday Sales {Updated Daily}

It’s time! (Don’t ask me how! This year has flown by, hasn’t it?) Black Friday weekend is upon us and the sales have begun. I think we can all agree that Black Friday is basically the holy grail of shopping. The discounts are unbeatable, it’s a great time to shop – you know you want to check all of those gifts off of your list early – and with the addition of huge online sales (now several years in the making), the days of lining up outside major retailers are long gone. This year, so many of the sales that start the week of Black Friday will run straight through Cyber Monday, giving you the entire holiday week and weekend to score major deals for all of your holiday shopping. And you want to start shopping now, because the sales are starting even earlier this year. For instance, Shopbop’s HUGE sale starts TODAY (Tuesday); we’re talking up to 25% off items from brand favorites like Stuart Weitzman, Tory Burch, Loeffler Randall, and 3.1 Phillip Lim, that are almost NEVER on sale.)
