Little Love Notes

Packing Travel - Clothing Rack

Happy weekend! Today we’re headed to a Fuller House party (we made M&M cookies!) and I’m SO excited. Tomorrow – Saturday – hubby, baby girl and I are hopping in the car and starting our week-long road trip! We’re touring around North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia; visiting family and taking a trip to Atlanta for some city fun (we have the Aquarium and Lenox Mall at the top of our list, but all recommendations are welcome!) I’ll be sharing what we’re up to throughout the trip over on instagramfacebooktwitter, and snapchat → glitterinclexi (lots of fun behind-the-scenes videos there). Follow along!

How about you? Any exciting weekend plans?

With that, a few little love notes …

Dear everyone, Jenna Dewan Tatum and James Corden dancing to Sia with toddlers will instantly make your day.

Dear Spring, please get here soon so I can wear this utterly adorable budget-friendly sleeved lace dress. K, thanks.

Dear snack lovers, the hummus hack.

Dear candle-obsessed, meet the white marble candle of my dreams.

Dear salon goers, is 2016 the end of salons as we know them?

Dear fashion girls, take notes: fourteen style icons share their fashion “thing.”

Dear Netflix binge, has anyone watched “Cooked“? I’ve got it on our must watch list.

Dear go-getters, this Bobbi Brown interview about how she got her start is a must read.

Dear 90s babies, the Cruel Intention remake is really happening. (As is the Friends reunion; and this Rachel impression is spot on!)

Dear weekend baking, Milk Bar’s salted chocolate chip cookies (perfect for a road trip, I might add!)

How to Get Red Carpet Ready at Home

I don’t know about you, but I’m a huge fan of awards season. I always tune in to the red carpet and the show, and usually I’ll throw together a special celebratory dinner or snacks to munch on during the festivities. My husband has actually even gotten in on the fun, and is starting to remember who’s who. (Trust me, that’s big.) This year’s Oscars are no exception, and thanks to BabbleBoxx, I got the chance to get “red carpet ready” at home, in my pajamas (and you can too) … fabulous.

In case you’re not familiar, BabbleBoxx is one of the newer beauty box brands to hit mailboxes. (You can read more about my first BabbleBoxx here.) Basically, you sign up for BabbleBoxx and receive a box full of larger than sample size products from some amazing beauty brands straight to your front door. We’re talking full-size beauty items that have just hit stores! Guys, I’m in beauty product heaven.

BabbleBoxx Oscars Edition: How to Get Red Carpet Ready at Home

So I thought I’d share with you a bit about what’s in my Oscars Edition BabbleBoxx.

How to Get Red Carpet Ready at Home: BabbleBoxx Oscars Edition -- Clarisonic Mia FIT

Clarisonic Mia FIT

I have always wanted to try a Clarisonic Mia (it’s a staple for celebrities, makeup artists, and beauty bloggers alike), and I’m happy to report: I’m obsessed. The Mia FIT features a velvety-soft brush head with longer bristles that deliver a luxurious cleaning experience that helps to improve skin texture for a comforting and effective cleanse even on the most sensitive skin.

For the girl on the run (or a busy mama) who wants a “less is more” natural look, the Clarisonic Mia FIT is a skin-saver. The handheld device focuses on “skin fitness” to achieve healthy-looking skin, even while wearing little to no makeup. Mia FIT uses Clarisonic’s oscillating technology to gently remove everyday impurities, sunscreen and makeup, for radiant, healthy skin. It cleanses skin 6x better than your hands alone, is surprisingly gentle, is designed for all skin types, allows for better absorption of skincare products, and is even waterproof so you can use it in the shower/sink. The Mia FIT also happens to be perfect for cleansing on the go (think travel, gym, etc.)

How to Get Red Carpet Ready at Home: BabbleBoxx Oscars Edition - Capri Vince Camuto

Capri By Vince Camuto

Vince Camuto’s new fragrance, Capri, is for the wanderlust in all of us. The bright scent has top notes of violet, pear, pink grapefruit, mid notes of red frangipani, peach blossom, and violet, and base notes of musk and vanilla. Even the Capri Vince Camuto’s bottle and packing makes me want to travel: the scent is contained in a sea glass-inspired bottle reminiscent of the Mediterranean’s blue waters.

“Capri Vince Camuto is the natural extension of our sister fragrance collections, Fiore, Amore and Bella” said Louise Camuto, Creative Director of Vince Camuto. “Each has a distinct appeal and offers women the ultimate accessory to express their individuality with!a touch of glamour, sensuality and charm.”

The new fragrance is available on macys.com.

How to Get Red Carpet Ready at Home: BabbleBoxx Oscars Edition - zzzquil

ZzzQuil

One way that I ensure that I look and feel my best every day (especially when traveling – I’m the worst at sleeping in unfamiliar hotel rooms!) is to prioritize sleep. It helps me to bring my A-game, so when I occasionally have a hard time falling asleep, I bring along ZzzQuil. ZzzQuil, from the makers of Vicks NyQuil, is a non-habit forming sleep-aid for the relief of occasional sleeplessness that helps you fall asleep easily, sleep  soundly, and wake refreshed, a.k.a., beauty rest in a bottle. #BringYourBest

How to Get Red Carpet Ready at Home - BabbleBoxx Oscars Edition - Baby Foot

Baby Foot

Truth time: I have seriously been neglecting my poor feet. Its been ages since I’ve had a pedicure, and I’ve stomped around in boots for so many months to combat the brutal cold. My heels are dry and kind of sad. So of course, when I saw that my new BabbleBoxx had included Baby Foot, I was thrilled. I had heard about this foot potion from friends, and was so excited to try it for myself. Baby Foot is a lavender-scented exfoliant foot peel designed to remove the unsightly dead skin cells on your feet that build up over time. Baby Foot is a scientifically formulated product that contains 17 types of natural extracts, which exfoliate and moisturize at the same time.

Basically, you wear the Baby Foot plastic socks and then over the next 3 to 7 days, dead skin cells will begin to slowly peel and your feet will be baby soft! (And perfect for a night on the town in your favorite strappy sandals – spring can’t come soon enough, or a red carpet.) Note: you don’t want to forcibly remove the peeling skin, just allow it to exfoliate naturally. In some instances, the skin may become dry until the peeling begins; just moisturize lightly with an oil-free product and continue to let it do it’s thing. Peeling time varies from person to person but shouldn’t take more than 2 weeks to complete. My advice: soak your feet for 30 minutes prior to application of the Baby Foot product, then use, and let the magic happen.

Cool Spotting: Layering Stacks of Chunky Rings

The other day I was checking out at a store when I spied the snazziest handful of rings worn by the girl behind the counter. Her style was of course, totally rad, but her mis-matched oversized rings – all in hues of tarnished silver [kind of witchy – like she walked off the set of The Craft (how’s that for a throwback?)] – were so cool, I couldn’t take my eyes off them. The effect of layering stacks of chunky rings was edgy and chic and I totally want to recreate it, stat. Though I’d probably go for a cleaner look (I do love delicate rings!), I really like the idea of trying out a few chunkier rings, mixed in with my more delicate rings – especially when going out for the night or to make a statement with an outfit. What’s extra awesome about this look is that you can easily mix metals (silver, gold, rose gold, oxidized); it really just ups the “cool” factor.

Cool Spotting: Layering Stacks of Chunky Rings - Lauren Wolf Rings

All of the rings by new-to-me brand, Lauren Wolf are ah-mazing. Hammered details, brushed metals, skulls, snakes, gems and stones, a mix of new and vintage: total swoon. And of course, they just work so well in stacks. (Images above and below.)

I also love how this Alexis Bittar 4-piece stack is a perfect foray into the layered chunky stack look (with the whole look in one stack); likewise with this Forever 21 stack (that’s under $6!). This Pamela Love arrowhead ring is bold and stunning and easily recreates the chunky ring look with just one ring, and you can’t go wrong with a coil-shaped snake ring. A signet ring worn on the pinky or pointer finger is also too cool for school and just a touch mafia (plus, it’s monogrammed, and I love a good monogram!)

Brand Crush: Dôen

Say hello to Dôen; the breezy bohemian brand, with exquisite details and flowing silhouettes, has totally stolen my heart. The contemporary line, which launched just this month, is the brainchild of two sisters and their creative friends, and “stocks casual, bohemian staples inspired by the sisters’ Santa Barbara upbringing. They see the brand as a celebration of motherhood, sisterhood and modern femininity.”

What really caught my eye were the breezy-meets luxe fabrics, like raw silk and cotton voile; the subtle nods to history (like dresses with 1970’s throwback vibes); the little details like hand-knotted fringe hems, tassels, embroidery and blanket stitches; and the lengths of the pieces. I know that last one sounds silly, but hear me out: all of the dresses and tops are designed for real women who move and run and chase babies. Told you I was in love.

Little Love Notes

Sweater, Striped Shirt and Black Jeans - in bed - weekend

So excited I could burst; my mom and Dad are coming to town for a quick weekend visit and I can’t wait to see them! Hubby has been working a ton at the hospital, so having family in town sounds perfect. Scarlett is also going to be thrilled to see them. Planning to drag them around to all of the mundane stuff we did back in Miami (I mean, who doesn’t love spending hours in HomeGoods with their Mama?) I’ll be sharing what we’re up to throughout the weekend over on instagramfacebooktwitter, and snapchat → glitterinclexi (lots of fun behind-the-scenes there). Follow along!

How about you? Any exciting weekend plans?

With that, a few little love notes …

Dear scent obsessed, I know you’re out there. You know you’re obsessed when you walk into a store and a lit candle has you so lovestruck you’re chasing after the salesperson asking exactly which candle it is they’ve lit. Well, same thing happened to me when I went for a meeting (to plan our next styled shoot), and fell hard for a tube of lotion in their guest bathroom. (I hope they didn’t notice how I kept surreptitiously sniffing at my hands, swooning over how good I smelled.) The moment I got home I ordered a tube of the SheaMoisture Olive & Green Tea (with Avocado) Body Butter and the Body Scrub (you know, for good measure.)

Dear movie buffs, seventy of the most beautiful shots in cinematic history.

Dear bath lovers, the prettiest flower power in a bottle you ever did see.

Dear hubby, this is for you; 15 times Larry David said what we were all thinking.

Dear weekend hair, can’t wait to try this easy and beautiful up-do.

Dear wanderlust, one of the most beautiful villages in France.

Dear Dawson’s Creek fans, Katie Holmes finally reveals whether Pacey or Dawson was the better kisser on Dawson’s Creek (sort of.)

Dear way back whenUnion Square’s Flower Market in the early 1900’s.

Dear weekend baking, baked cinnamon sugar doughnuts – and rumor has it, these soft, buttery cinnamon sugar doughnuts are baked but taste fried.

What’s in My (Updated) Diaper Bag

Today I’m partnering with Vaseline to share a peek into my updated diaper bag. When I first had Scarlett, I painstakingly packed (a.k.a., overpacked … okay, more like stuffed to the brim) our diaper bag with everything I thought I could possibly need. One of the funniest lessons of motherhood is learning that no amount of advice, books, apps, or anecdotal evidence is going to teach you how to be a mom. Being a mom teaches you how to be a mom, plain and simple. Thankfully, my diaper bag situation is a tiny bit more manageable these days. Or at the very least more thoughtful. Although I will probably always be that mom who has, well, everything*, I’ve learned to consolidate quite a bit.

One of the big changes I’ve made (and after much encouragement from my own mom who convinced me that you really could throw what you need for baby into your own bag and make it out the door): I’ve started using just a tote bag for both my things and the baby’s. That’s not to say that I don’t still use the diaper bag when I know we’ll have a long day out and about or on trips, but for running a quick errand or two, it is infinitely easier to throw everything – baby’s and mine – into one bag.

For myself, the key was to focus on my own beauty and purse must-haves. Wallet, phone, keys, sunglasses = always. A few beauty musts including powder, a spare nail polish (chipped nails drive me crazy), and one or two of my favorite Vaseline Lip Therapy Tins. (Truly, I’m totally hooked on these little tins – since getting these, I’ve been rotating through Rosy Lips, the Original, and Cocoa Butter – a new favorite.) Vaseline is actually celebrating the U.S. launch of the brand’s Lip Therapy Tins! Clinically proven to help heal dry lips and provide long-lasting moisture, these little tins are my winter survival secret weapon. They keep my lips unbelievably hydrated while I’m on the go (which is always!) and last and last. You can pick some up for yourself at Target and Target.com.

*Seriously, need a snack? A juice box? Diaper? Wipes? Change of clothes? Change of socks? Spare shoes? Bandaids? Moisturizer? I’ve got you covered!
