Holiday Gifting: Pajama Party

This post is sponsored by Sears.

I’ve teamed up with SearsStyle to help you shop the best trends throughout the holiday season, and I’m super excited about this one. Here’s a holiday gift that’s highly underrated: holiday pajamas and robe sets. I recently splurged on one of those oh-so-cozy robes (in the most adorable polka-dot pattern) and the cutest pajamas, and now I’m hooked. A robe or a new set of pajamas is the kind of thing you wouldn’t normally buy for yourself, but when you finally do—or someone buys it for you—you realize how much you’d been missing. I know it sounds crazy, but really think about it: When was the last time you bought yourself a matching set of pajamas or the kind of luxe robe you always “ooh and aah” over at your favorite hotels?

So this year, I’ve scooped up my new favorite robe and the most adorable pajamas for me, my hubby, and my baby girl. (I’m sure you’ll see more cute snaps of those closer to the holidays!) The family pajamas match (-ish), naturally, and I have big plans to get cozy sometimes after Thanksgiving for a little family holiday pajama party, complete with pancakes and hot cocoa.

For now, you can catch me lounging in bed in our PJS with my baby girl or roaming our house in this robe, because it is decadent, unbelievably soft, oversized, and so cozy. (Thank goodness, because it is getting cold!)

Moon & Lola Private Holiday Party

Last night I attended the most adorable private party at Moon & Lola, a new-to-me boutique in Downtown Raleigh. Sheila of That Girl Studio treated a few creative ladies and bloggers to the little gathering – me, Chana of Raleigh What’s Up, Sarah of Escaping New York, and Mikkel of Mikkel Paige Photography (who snapped all of these gorgeous photos!) – and to say it got me excited for the holidays (and jewelry!) is an understatement. By the way, the next time you pop into your local Moon & Lola store, if you enter their drawing you’ll be entered to win your own private party. They have giveaways like this all of the time!

As for the party itself, the Downtown Raleigh Moon & Lola was decorated to the nines in pink Holiday decor and I couldn’t get enough. It was a frosty pink Christmas, and it was perfect.

I mean, how great is that bright pink Christmas tree? It looks like a giant pink frosted cupcake! Topped with the cutest personalized ornaments.

If ever you were considering straying from the traditional green and red Christmas, this all-pink décor might be just the inspiration you need! (Orrrr you could check out my all-white Winter Wonderland Holiday dining room makeover.)

How to Style and Throw a Lush Thanksgiving

I’ve had this idea to create a lush Thanksgiving for friends (a Friendsgiving, if you will) outdoors (if weather permits), and thanks to a few amazing creative friends, we brought the idea to life this holiday season! It was featured on Style Me Pretty Living too (pinch me!)

Of course this Thanksgiving table can easily be re-created indoors, rather than outside, and we may do just that if the temperatures keep on dropping here in North Carolina; but either way, it will look lush and bright. Read on to see a few behind-the-scenes snaps, plans for our own Thanksgiving, and tips for creating the look on your own.

Lush Outdoor Thanksgiving (Friendsgiving) Dinner Party

This year will be my first Thanksgiving holiday spent without family (my husband is a resident and he couldn’t take the holiday off to travel home). Luckily, we’re spending the holiday at our new home in North Carolina with our closest friends who are driving up, so I knew I wanted to create something special and memorable. Growing up, my mom always put together these incredible Thanksgiving dinners – an abundance of great food, the prettiest decorations, a time to share what we’re thankful for, plus midnight turkey sandwiches and holiday movies late into the night – and I want to do the same in our new home with friends, new and old.

To get the look for our outdoor Thanksgiving, we decorated the table (after dragging our dining room table and chairs outside, because the weather has been just too perfect) with all of these gorgeous vines, leaves, and florals, a few plain white taper candles, white dishes and napkins, gold flatware, and clear glasses found at HomeGoods. Simple, rustic, and warm.

Brandi Leigh photographed and captured everything at that perfect evening light and reminded me just how much I love our new backyard (and fall, in general!)

Lush Outdoor Thanksgiving (Friendsgiving) Dinner Party

For the florals, we were trying to keep a low profile in terms of height. A great Thanksgiving is shared with loved ones, and you want to be able to see everyone over the flowers and table displays.

Alana of Serendipity Designs used the perfect mix of lush greens: seeded eucalyptus, Italian ruscus, white ranunculus, green broom corn, fresh rosemary, and a few garden-grown and seasonal gardenias and camellia blooms.

She explains: “To create a lush and natural table display simply trim the longer ends of the eucalyptus and ruscus and place two branches in opposite directions in the middle of the table.  Continue to fill in with branches and sprigs down the length of the table, on both sides.  Tuck in a few wispy sprigs near the ends and pop in a few short pieces of broomcorn for a little texture.  A little rosemary is added for a touch of vibrant green.  Pick a few fluffy ranunculus blooms, fragrant gardenias and bold camilla blooms to tuck in sporadically for a pop of white.  A few white pillar candles are tucked for a touch of candlelight.”

I also snagged a few vines and sprigs of rosemary and using some natural string and cinnamon sticks, I created these little bundles at each person’s table setting. They smelled divine and will actually dry and preserve beautifully; i.e., the perfect little keepsake for your guests. Paired with the laser-cut wood menus, the table settings looked truly special, without too much effort. Let’s face it: Thanksgiving should be about relaxing, friends, family, and fun, not stressing over every little detail.

When it comes to Thanksgiving food, I love the classics: turkey, mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes, baked macaroni and cheese, candied yams, brussels sprouts, yeast rolls, and of course, pie and pecan pie shooters.

Happy Thanksgiving, ya’ll!

Planning a Thanksgiving Menu: 25 Amazing Recipes

Guess what? I have scoured the internet and my own personal collection of favorites for the best of the best Thanksgiving recipes to plan your holiday menu. If this is your first Thanksgiving on your own, or even if you’ve got plenty of awesome Turkey Days under your belt, you’re going to want to pin a few of these recipes and ideas for the holidays; I promise you. This year will be our very first Thanksgiving in our new home (North Carolina), and also the first on our own, without our families. Thank goodness, my best friend and her adorable family are headed this way for a long weekend visit for the holiday, so instead of dwelling on the fact that this year is going to be so different, I’m focused on making one awesome Thanksgiving holiday (and starting a few of our own traditions.)

The trouble is: I want to make it all. My head is spinning. So I’ve narrowed it down to 25 recipes and ideas that totally have my attention, but I’ve still got some cutting to do.

Planning the Menu - 25 Amazing Thanksgiving Recipes for the Holidays

Tell me, what is your go-to Thanksgiving menu? I want to hear it all; from the cocktails to the kind of turkey to the side dishes (traditional or outside-the-box or a mix of both?) to the dessert, even the appetizers. Speaking of which, do you serve appetizers and/or hors d’ouvres before the main event?

I’m thinking about putting together one giant cheese plate to avoid having to time something additional to cook before the big meal. In years past my mom has always whipped up cooked appetizers like artichoke dip and stromboli, but she’s superwoman, so I may just stick to that cheese plate.

After that, I’ve been thinking about adding a salad to this year’s Thanksgiving table – either some variation of this warm salad of Brussels Sprouts with Candied Bacon and Walnuts (plus green apples, onions, mushrooms, and kale in a balsamic glaze!) or  Apple Cranberry Walnut Salad or Shaved Brussels Sprout & Endive Salad – because I like the idea of adding something fresh and light-ish to an otherwise carb-heavy (and awesome) dinner.

Next up is the star of the show – the brined and roasted turkey (with Martha’s mushroom turkey gravy, of course.) Paired with stuffing, mashed potatoes, squash gratin (which is really just a fancy way of saying “casserole”), sweet potato casserole, classic baked macaroni and cheese, vegetables, and so much dessert. I’m also debating making my own bread basket filled with Parker House rolls and pumpkin muffins (basically this amazing recipe without the marshmallow and streusel), because I can’t ever be rational with my menus. I guess we’ll see what time (and chasing a toddler around) allows.

As for dessert, I’m looking to create fun, low-maintenance and individual desserts – you know, in the name of portion control and all! I am most definitely making the pecan pie shooters again (my husband won’t stop talking about them) and I have my eye on these pumpkin pie bars (although this pumpkin pecan cobbler looks equally incredible) in lieu of the traditional pumpkin pie. I also think I want to make an apple galette (easier to assemble than a pie, but just as yummy.)

Whew! I’m hungry just thinking about this Thanksgiving. These are the Thanksgiving recipes on my menu:
