Manhattan Apartment Tour + The Possibility of Moving to NYC

I’m going to preface this post by admitting that I am kind of crazy.  And I kind of maybe plan way too far in advance.  (You know, as if a baby on the way, plus two jobs, wasn’t enough to think about.)  Friday marks exactly one year from “match day” for hubby – what that means:  in exactly a year’s time, we will know our fate for the next 4-6 years; i.e., where we’ll be moving for hubby’s residency.  It also means that this Summer we start sending out his applications for said residency, and this Fall, he starts interviewing for those programs.  So what’s a crazy planner like me to do?  Plan way too early in advance.  And right now we are toying with the idea of NYC.  I’ve e-mailed New Yorkers, who have all warned me of the cost of living, but nothing could have prepared me for the cold hard facts of a NYC rent (or the cold hard fact that if we do in fact relocate to NYC, I’ll be eating Ramen noodles, daily).

But don’t get too excited with the idea, we’ve also spent weeks discussing living in Boston, LA, or simply falling on the wrong side of luck come match day and winding up somewhere that boasts nothing but miles of farm land (the idea gives me the sweats, but I could make gardening happen.)

Then of course, there’s this luxe new-construction model apartment in The Lucida in New York, NY.  Guess where we’d be moving in our price-range?  A dorm.  Maybe.  Or a very tiny “studio” that we’ll call charming but secretly loathe for it’s lack of closets and a built-in washer/dryer (seriously, how do you New Yorkers survive without a washer/dryer in your place?)  Either way, let’s drool over this glamorous apartment for a while?  Ahhh, but those views.  Could I make it in the Big Apple?  (Will I get hot pretzels thrown at me for calling it “the Big Apple”?)

Really loving that dining room; the mix of modern white chairs with sleek silver detail and a fantastic rustic table is just perfect.

What a dreamy space! I’m a crazy planner like you are and I cannot even imagine not knowing where you’re going to end up! I’m sure wherever you and your hubby end up you’ll make it your own 🙂

It’s definitely a feeling I’m not used to! Trying to just prepare for everything, haha.

  3. Wish I lived here! I love the neutral colors.

Yes! Such great use of neutral colors. 🙂

Haha, I like that you’re thinking on the bright side. You can definitely make gardening happen in middle of nowhere, USA. You might even find that you like the solace! Idk, I’ve never experienced it myself. Wherever you end up, I’m sure you will find a way to keep busy and entertained. <3

NYC would sure be nice… Laundry deficits and all!

I keep thinking that too — NYC just sounds so magical! We’ll see! 🙂

  5. LOVE this apartment. Totally understand wanting to plan ahead- if I may give a bit of unsolicited advice…the west coast is the best coast! 😉

haha, my hubby probably agrees with you! And we are already spoiled by Miami weather, so California weather wouldn’t be much of an adjustment. 😉

  6. NYC is the best city in the world, I would love to meet you if you move here! This interior is just so dreamy, sigh:)

OMG please more to New York! So what if you have to live in a closet & do your laundry in a shady basement… It’s so worth it! And Baby Hutts is going to need a partner in crime… DO IT!

Good luck with figuring everything out! NYC is so much fun and filled with so much to do, that it is possible to distract yourself from the tininess that is your apt!

haha, I like that idea! And I’m definitely good at keeping myself busy. 🙂

ahhhh that space is too pretty!
I actually lived in NYC for close to 6 years; NYers tend to move around alot (for me it was 9 times in the aforementioned span). eventually, I settled on the borough of brooklyn but after a year in one Williamsburg apartment the rent was raised immensely and I (like so many others) was pushed farther out and into Bushwick.

It’s an amazing city, with a wealth of opportunities and SUCH diversity. If you can swing it, go for it!
Or, you should check out Washington DC (I moved there)!! much more bang for your buck and most places actually have laundry!

Good luck and I’m sure wherever you and your family lands you will make it glamorous <33
