Time-Saving Summer Beauty Routine

In the Summer, especially here in Miami, I’ve had to learn to change up my beauty routine to keep my skin and hair in check with the crazy hot temperatures.  So when Vaseline asked me to share a “Day in the Life of Beauty”  all about my efficient morning beauty routines, I knew it was just the post for me.  Like most people, I’m on a pretty tight time-frame in the mornings, but from 9 to 1:30 I’m in a law office, where I can’t just turn up in my sweatpants (no matter how much I’d love to on some days … a.k.a., Mondays.)

First things first, I always wash my face with a gentle exfoliator, and of course I brush my teeth.  Then it’s coffee and moisturizer.  I’ve been trying to buy makeup that comes packed with SPF for my face, but I also like to keep my skin moisturized from head to toe.  Olay has a great face cream with SPF that I’ve used for years, but putting lotion all over your arms, legs, and neck for fifteen minutes each morning can get tedious.  In comes Vaseline Spray & Go Moisturizer; totally time-saving and brilliant.  The spray is not sticky or greasy, and you can put your clothes on right after application.  My suggestion: go with the cocoa butter formula – cocoa butter helps prevent stretch marks (not that we have those), and treats of dry or burned skin (the result of extra-hot Summers).

My Summer makeup routine is a bit different as well.  As I mentioned, every concealer and touch-up I buy has to have SPF. I’m also really into tinted SPF moisturizers, and this one has become a fast favorite.  Then it’s a swipe of oil-free moisturizer to help stay matte, a bit of eyeshadow, a swipe of liquid liner, and a bold stay-out lip.

This Summer I’m also trying to lay off the hair iron … trying … so I’ve searched for a few sweet clips to keep my hair up and pretty.  I’ve also been trying out a lot of simple updos like these to keep cool in the warmer months.

Do you change up your beauty routines for Summer?

Summer Classic: T-Shirt + Shorts

Old Navy Blogger Lexi printed twill shorts black tee camo camouflage jacket karen walker super super sunglasses friendship bracelets red lips lipstick arm party bracelets _

The easiest Summer default outfit has got to be the classic t-shirt and shorts combination.  And though I’m not typically a shorts and shirt kind of girl, I happily accepted the challenge.  I decided to dress up my Summer shorts and fell instantly in love with the printed shorts at Old Navy.  By the way, get yourself to Old Navy ASAP, their Summer shorts are so incredibly adorable.  The pair I chose to style happens to have a bit more tailoring than a more rugged pair of denim shorts (though the Old Navy boyfriend shorts are so cute!), and the flat front on this pair has a great slimming effect.  I’m also loving the idea of warming these shorts up in the Fall and Winter with a pair of tights and booties.

With this Summer look, I really wanted to play with prints, so I mixed in a camo jacket and leopard flats.  By the way, that camo jacket (and the adorable “Little Black Tee”) are from Old Navy as well!  The friendship bracelets were just my colorful nod to Summer.  And is it just me, or does every fashion blogger own an Old Navy camo jacket?  So glad I snatched one up before they’re all sold out.

Wedding Photography: Accessories

We’ve seen the images of the bride’s shoes, perhaps her veil, on the big day, but these simple photographs of the bride’s accessories all laid out for a few pretty photographs stopped me in my tracks immediately.  How clever, how simple, how beautiful.

And in case you were wondering (because what shoe-lover wouldn’t be?), the dramatic bow-topped heels: they’re by Nicholas Kirkwood.

From the bride: “To compliment the dress, Twigs and Honey made me an ethereal custom blusher veil. Paula from Ila Handbags designed two amazing clutches to go with each gown, which are some of my prettiest treasures. And I couldn’t resist these Nicholas Kirkwood heels to pair with my reception gown.”

Bumps in the Road

don't let yesterday take up too much of today - quote -

This weekend was stressful.  I had to make an emergency visit to my doctor on Friday (thankfully, all looks a-okay) and I have a big annual scan on Monday that scares me every time.  (Once you’ve had cancer, any kind of cancer, you find that the regular scans and blood work give you more nerves in anticipation of what could be, than any treatments you’ve already been through.  More on that, here.)  And then, blog disaster struck.  Friday night I got an e-mail from my designer who had realized that the coding on my new site – Glitter, Inc. was beyond her capability; a site we had planned to launch in the next few weeks.  A site I’ve been promising for months.  And I found myself stuck with a half-finished site, and a whole lot of commitments to brands (ahem, amazing giveaways coming your way with the launch of the new site.)

I was in a panic, e-mailing and calling every family and blogger friend I had, seeking developer recommendations … the kind of developers willing to bump me ahead of their already months-long waiting list … so far, trying to patiently wait to hear back and hoping someone throws me a life raft.  I have family working on the merge as we speak, and a million e-mails sent.  Fingers crossed.  The worst case scenario: Glitter, Inc. goes live without the beautiful design; the one I had so eagerly anticipated showing you all.  Best case scenario: we get a savior developer and the merge is seamless, and all goes up at roughly the same time.

Either way, the weekend reminded me that running your own business has it’s pitfalls, but we grow and we learn and we take a deep breath and we have big cups of coffee and we adjust.  So for the next few days and weeks, bear with me.  I’m hoping you all will hardly notice a glitch at all, but if we do merge the sites, pre-design being coded into place, please excuse our bare bones look and keep on reading, following, and being an all-around awesome fan of the blog!  I’ll keep you posted!

Rimmel Steal The Show Look #4

Last but certainly not least, I’m recreating the Grand Prize Winner, @lipsticksandheels’ look from the Rimmel’s Steal The Show contest (asking girls to share their ScandalEyes show-stealing eye makeup looks!)  The Grand Prize Winner layered shades of Rimmel purple and yellow-gold and added black liquid liner detail along the eye lids to create a dramatic and winning eye makeup look – perfect for Summer, I might add.

Be sure to let me know what you think and if you try out any of the amazing Rimmel looks, do share with me!
