Little Love Notes

you me oui print flowers floral - the printed arrow

Dear Pinterest, thank you so much for introducing me to lovely little online gems like The Painted Arrow.  I am in love with all of her sweet floral prints, namely this “You Me Oui” print.

Dear design gurus/fans/general-appreciators, I need your advice.  I’m in the thick of decorating our new place and I’m torn between so many looks.  But for today, I’m having indecisive lamp syndrome.  Which gold floor lamp do you fancy?  The Stella Floor Lamp from Urban Outfitters (on sale for $99) or the Julian Apothecary Floor Lamp from Ballard Designs (also $99)?

Dear C. Wonder Store, stop being so cute!  Oh who am I kidding?  Keep being cute!  And send tiny gold rope knot stacking rings my way.

Dear foodies, watch Elettra’s Goodness.  Basically a fun new video series from Vogue, Elettra visits with actors, actresses, models, and tastemakers to help them make their favorite dish in the kitchen, and of course, to chit chat.  And I love it!  (Thank you, Victoria, for introducing me to the series.) {Follow along on Vogue’s YouTube Channel (where there’s also more behind the scenes footage).}

Dear Madewell, thank you for helping a darker-side-loving girl out and introducing the little black summer dress.  I’m in love.

Dear self-doubters (myself included), take five minutes and read the article, Does the Word Need your Dream.  (Big thanks to Meg for posting this to her Facebook page).  And if your week needed a little extra motivation, this article by Jess Lively on HuffPost Women was just the kick in the butt I needed.  Per Jess: “It’s time to stop reading someone else’s success story and start writing our own.”

Dear roasted strawberry and toasted coconut popsicles, where have you been all my life?

Dear Ikea, I’m coming for you this weekend – don’t let me down!

Seaside Dorset {Dream} Home

I swear feel like I dreamed up this stunning seaside home.  (Also, considering it’s on the English Channel Coast, I’m assuming I miss London … a lot.)  Built around 1850 of Purbeck Stone, the building itself has had many lives.  Local legends suggest it has been used as a pumping station, a fish market and a lemonade factory.  And today it stands as my very own rustic-meets-eclectic dream home.  (Or so I wish!)  The home sits alongside the sea (with a stunning view) and it’s minutes on foot to it’s own private beach, a sailing club, and shops.  And in case you didn’t know (because I definitely didn’t!), Dorset, the town this home is in, is a county in South West England on the English Channel coast.

A rainbow staircase?  Told you it was my dream home.

This house has a whole lot of character and plenty of history.  Some of the structure, such as the stairs and crane are old architectural salvages from London, once used as ballast for ships returning empty after having delivered Purbeck marble and stone.  And did you catch the sliding barn door entrance and the boat-turned high-top dining table?

Are you swooning yet?

And in case you’re in the market for a big, beautiful home on the English Channel, look no further.

15 Shift Dress Picks for Summer

colorblock summer shift dress white clutch

With the warmer months back in full swing, I reignite my love for an easy, ready-to-wear dress; the shift dress is no exception … and might be the very best of the best.  The shift dress is one of the easiest silhouettes to wear; it’s generally cut straight from the shoulders down (sometimes flowing away from the hip area).  It’s loose shape and shorter hem makes it an adorable summer option.  Some shift dresses are more casual, perfect for throwing on with an adorable pair of sandals and a relaxed denim jacket, and others are dressier – great for events, date night, cocktail parties, you name it.  I’m also adding to my growing “wants” list with this one, including a mod Kate Spade dress that I’ll be dreaming of dancing in and a vegan leather shift dress by Tinley Road that will forever be a staple in your closet.  At $49, this cut-out printed shift dress from Nordstrom is the perfect Summer staple, and at $67 this floral print frill-sleeve dress is Summer party ready.

Don’t forget – Shopbop is offering 25% off their entire Sale section.  Shopbop sales are rare and awesome, so stock up on Summer goods now.

4th of July No-Bake Cheesecake

I don’t normally re-post recipes on this blog; in fact, this is the first recipe I have ever re-posted … it’s that good, and easy, and almost guilt-free. Meet my secret-weapon go-to Summer dessert: the no-bake cheesecake. Plus, with strawberries (or raspberries) and blueberries, it is the perfect Fourth of July dessert.

It’s also the perfect anytime dessert. I actually always have graham cracker crumbs, a stick of cream cheese, and powdered sugar on hand, in case we get a last-minute invite to a party, or I’ve had a bad day, or hubby makes sad face at me.  I usually experiment with this dessert, cutting fat, adding citrus, etc., but for the most part, to keep the dessert lighter, I use low-fat cream cheese, fat free cool whip, skim milk, and butter substitute (for the crust).  And FYI:  I’ve never been the biggest cheesecake lover, but the addition of cool whip keeps this “healthy” cheesecake light and fluffy.

Recipe yields about 6-7 Mini Desserts, or 4-5 moderate-sized desserts.  The recipe does not create a huge amount, so for a party, I would double the recipe.
