This past Monday morning I arrived back in Miami on the heels of my first ever whirlwind Alt Summit experience. My mind is racing, my to-do lists are long, and I’m fired up and ready to re-brand Glitter, Inc. with a whole lot of intention. I know not all of you are bloggers or business-owners, but I think some of the big concepts and ideas I learned at Alt can help us all to kick metaphorical butt. And in case you were wondering, Alt is this massive conference-meets-gathering of writers, bloggers, photographers, artists, designers, crafters and filmmakers. We’re inundated with inspirational speakers, teachers, collaborative sessions and seminars and hands-on roundtables. (This post gets a little long: if lofty goals and dream-catching are in your future, read on, and if you just want to talk shoes or cookies or power naps – I’m still that jet-lagged, comment and say so!)
I’ve already professed my new-found obsession with fur collars and stoles – they’re just so vintage … and warm (which is a must in my book!) and there are so many affordable faux options. And with thoughts of travel in my mind and a recent trip to freezing-cold Salt Lake City, I’m dreaming again of fur … and this time I’m dreaming in technicolor.

A few of the funkiest fur collars, snoods, vests and coats I could find:
Sometimes I want to throw an impromptu dinner party, but then I overwhelm myself with my own high expectations. I love to cook, so for the most part, I’ve got the menu covered – even if it’s a big bowl of pasta and salad, folks are happy; but the decor is another thing. I tend to pin, bookmark, and save table-top inspiration like a maniac, but then when inspiration to cook strikes, and I think, “This weekend I’ll throw a dinner party” I always back-peddle because I think, “I can’t possibly design a dinner party by Saturday.” And you know what? That’s just silly.
So I offer up this inspiration: a gorgeous table-scape with simple place settings and one statement piece of fabric running across the center of the table — in gold chevron and sequins … how’s that for a table-runner? (Also loving this red and white chevron table runner from One King’s Lane for a lunch or summer event!)
By the way, the entire wedding that this simple table-scape is from is super bohemian glam. Have a look!

With the first month of the new year winding down, I’ve decided to check in with myself about my own resolutions, and survey says: I’m not quite there. So I’ve decided to make small steps towards a healthier, more balanced me. Tuesday, January 29th, 2012 is National Vitamin Day, and I think that marks a great time to get going on my health kick.
We make “getting healthy” this enormous task, tied to resolutions, gym memberships, and high expectations, but every little bit counts, so, starting today, I’m going to try to walk – anywhere, really, and even if only for a few minutes, or swim, or skip, or dance; I’m going to get out in the sunshine more often, and I’m going to take vitamins. I won’t even have to be a baby about swallowing big disgusting pills because Nature Made® VitaMelts™ are actually really good, and dissolve (which is great when pills still half-terrify me.)
So I’m encouraging you all to focus on your health (mostly so that you can all yell at me when I’ve fallen off the wagon)! How have your big new years resolutions been going? Are you making health a priority?

Maybe it’s that I’m currently at Alt Summit in Salt Lake City right now, freezing, but this lovely spaghetti strap wedding dress has me dreaming of Spring.

I just wanted to pop in quickly to share this amazing quote that was posted on a slide at the Work/Life Balance panel this afternoon at Alt Summit. I’m learning a ton and meeting so many incredible people. Can’t wait to post my crazy long notes, photos, and more!
