I was never the type to flip off of a diving board. I edged in by the steps … and held on to the rail. And generally speaking, I am the same with fashion. I like to incorporate statement looks piecemeal. Thus my penchant for accessories. And the colorblocking trend of late is no exception. In 1992, I wore two pairs of scrunchie socks in alternating colors – hawt colorblocking. In 2011, older, wiser, and thankfully, far more fashionable, I test the waters with accessories (and have sworn off ALL fashion items that contain the letter sequence “ch” … i.e., ponchos, scrunchies, gaucho pants, etc.).
Easy items like costume jewelry, handbags, and shoes are interchangeable and are the perfect nod to the latest trends. For example, nudes and blushes washing you out – try on a pair of nude pumps; on trend. Dream of weaving strands of feathers through your hair a la your idol, Ke$ha, but work a 9 to 5 with a beige dress code – the feather earring.
