Death Defying Hair

{image a la we heart it}

My fifteen minutes of interest in Brazilian Blowouts has died a swift death.  California is taking serious strides to ban Brazilian Blowouts after testing two samples of the brand’s Smoothing Serum.  The superior court of California has filed a proposed preliminary injunction against the makers of Brazilian Blowout, GIB LLC, after approximately 8% formaldehyde was found in the recipe, the typical ratio found in embalming fluid used by funeral homes.  A hazard alert has been issued by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration under the Department of Labor warning stylists and consumers of the serious health risks posed by the product.   (WWD)

I’m sticking with my trusted straightening iron.

    Isn’t that creepy? I’ve heard that a lot of new clothing has formaldehyde on it. I guess it must be the dyes and all.

    Hope you have a good weekend!

    • haha, okay – now I am officially freaked out!

      • hi-d

        I know! LOL…seems like there’s always something out there that’s bad for you.

    I have a different opinion maybe because I’m Brazilian. I’ve known the Brazilian blowout for years and the first time I had my hair done I was 17 years old. I can affirm, It’s life changing!!!! I do every year when I go back to Brazil to visit my family. I totally understand and approve California’s position. However I’d like to make some considerations. My first consideration is: in so many year I had never heard of this company called Brazilian Blowout, GIB LLC. I don’t even think it’s Brazilian. Second of all, nowadays we have products in Brazil that are all natural with no formaldehyde whatsoever. Why they would have something so hazardous with our technology? I don’t know. I just think it’s weird! Oh, one more thing: “Better be safe than sorry” so I’d never use this product on my pretty straight by technology hair! LOL I’m a Glambassador too! I adore your blog! Xxoo

    • Hi fellow glammy! I have wavy/curly hair and I’ve considered trying some kind of straightening treatment for a while now. I think Brazilian Blowouts are probably fine so long as they don’t contain formaldehyde. But I’m terrified of damaging my hair, so I’ll probably just leave it alone. xox
